WOW is that hype if I ever saw one. Did the hype machine leave Accuweather and go to Weather Channel? This is a very dangerous and irresponsible map to put up.

Completely disagree. Even if the winds stay offshore, the heavy rain/flooding/coastal erosion threat is huge from this system all the way up the Eastern Seaboard.

it generally fits the spread of the models. it seems unlikely the whole pink area would take a pink area hit but any of them in it seem game right now.

Not really, the CDO is probably too compact on the GFS and I expect widespread flooding rain and TS conditions along I-95.

sustained TS at the jersey shore looks like a good bet too....I wouldnt bank on TS NW of 95 too far though.

TWC has every right putting that map out. Millions of people are facing the biggest threat in 26 years...it's worth PAYING attention to, not hitting the panic button, but I suspect if these trends continue, and I worked in Phl/NYC news market, id want to be at Home Depot interviewing scared residents....

then going up and down shore communities and interviewing scared residents,

and finding the one bar that won't close...and talk to the hearty, good natured long haired owner....

I will try and document this as best as possible. My weather station is on backup power and will record all/most of the wind data and rain data.

I will also be somewhere between belmar and point pleasant...with my media pass and a tightly taped and protected video camera...hopefully the police will let me through the impending road blocks...

Well, I dont think the word is out yet. just went to the grocery store, and it was empty. C'mon Weather Channel, build that hype, we need the consumer spending to rebuild the economy!

There's going to be a lot of hemming and hauling regarding this system. It's likely a crap chute as to a definite west trend, but if I were to hazard a guess, the models will pull the rug right out from under us, as it is their moses operandi. Glad to see the mets here use actual analysis and not cow tow to the models and making them an escape goat. Personally, I'm hoping Irene goes for the juggler and hits Cat 5 status.

Yes, great, we'll have tropical storm force winds and heavy rain... basically what we've already been having for the past few weeks except a little windier. THAT warrants one step away from catastrophic??

18Z GFS is close to extratropical over NE It's a butiful looking hybrid system.

The storm stalls off the carolinas and the latent heat keeps jacking up heights to the east of the storm and creating it's own steering flow. The also shortens the EC troff enough to allow for Baroclinic cyclogenesis over New England.

However I still have faith that models will come east and offshore in this pattern. I don't think a zonal flow is going to get it's butt kicked by the storm so easily.
