k***
Not entirely sure... should I find that out? I just know that they're Eastern LI. I'll ask but I don't know if they'll answer until tomorrow. Could you give me opinions on a general basis, or do you need the elevation? If you want accuracy we are going to need elevation...it affects wind, pressure, and surge. WishingForWarmWeather
That was an incredibly stupid question, SP. LOL <3 I deleted it after I read other comments. Sorry, I'm delirious at the moment and kinda stupid from 4 different shots in the arm today at the dr. At least I got a laugh out of it though-- you never cease to bring the lol. WishingForWarmWeather
Tell them to have an evacuation route and supplies ready. Yeah, I have already. After going through Katrina in the 9th ward, I always warn friends/family when hurricanes are coming. I was just kind of looking for possible specifics in regard to storm surge/wind/rain amounts. Thanks, though, appreciate it.
WishingForWarmWeather
Yup, and even if doesn't miss.... we survived Belle, Gloria, Bob, Bertha and Floyd just fine..... it's doubtful this could be worse than the worst of those. Will you be affected, if the current track verifies?

WishingForWarmWeather
If you want accuracy we are going to need elevation...it affects wind, pressure, and surge. Okay, I've asked. Out of curiosity, what is the average elevation in ELI? Is it like DT CHS or NOLA-- at or below sea level?
Dunkman
there could be some real thrashin & trashin in the meteorology world if this ends up fishing. Pretty sure it's already started because....how is there not a fish emoticon?
Amped
there could be some real thrashin & trashin in the meteorology world if this ends up fishing. They were hyping it up everywhere from TX to ME and one point or another. I was ready to strangle them today.

WishingForWarmWeather
Describe that experience, thx. It's really, really, really hard for me to talk about, to be completely honest. Maybe later if I'm feeling particularly brave I will PM you about it.
A-L-E-X
Will you be affected, if the current track verifies? Affected, yes..... anything to panic over, no. Most of the elevation here is 20 feet or less (on the south shore), however Long Island has barrier islands protecting it. And this doesn't seem to be anywhere near a worst case scenario. The barrier islands like Long Beach, Jones Beach, Fire Island, etc., may be evacuated, but that's about it.
Riptide
I'm 99% sure Irene won't miss Cape Cod but it will be a flopping pile of crap when it gets up there. If it does fish, not seeing a better synoptic setup for EC landfall later this season, and probably not for the next 10 years.
WishingForWarmWeather
Describe that experience, thx. Kind of easier for me to just answer any specific question, than me just sitting down and talking about it. So, if you have any specific questions that I feel brave enough to answer, I'll try. NortheastPAWx
Typical DT Wxrisk.com ALERT on 0z WED GFS MODEL RUN... the model is just going Bonkers with the cold front in the Midwest... and becuase it does it Kicks Irene really east and the Models PHASES the the cold front ( the Trough over the Great Lakes ) and Irene . I guess the GFS thinks this is a coastal Low and NOT a hurircane

WishingForWarmWeather
Did you ever give up? As in there's no hope left? I was ****ing terrified... I had just moved to the city August 1st, from NNJ. I really had no idea what a hurricane could do, and was talked into staying by my friends. Really had no idea about levees or what they could or could not handle. Just wasn't something that came up in conversation after only being there for 25 days. At one point, yes, I just wanted to straight up die... more so from the things I was witnessing.

I grew up in Denville and moved to Budd Lake when I was 21 before I moved down to Florida 3 years ago. Still haven't been in a hurricane. Do you still live there?
