09-10 analogy
Is anyone afraid skyscrapers might blow over in NYC if the hurricane hits there? Well today's quake probably weakened most of them structurally, so, yes, I think we could be looking at Manhattan's skyscrapers falling like weeds before Irene's scythe. But just think of all the salvage opportunities afterwards. Fiber optic cable, plastic knives, hidden porn collections ...

Thunder Road
oh, there's still time for it to miss places to the northeast.. oh yeah definitely. it seems like the models actually have a pretty decent handle on the synoptics and their relation to future track, especially for D4, it just so happens that it's a very close call regarding the obx. if this was central SC we wouldn't be analyzing every damn wobble. thewxmann
Is anyone afraid skyscrapers might blow over in NYC if the hurricane hits there? IMO, this should be no stronger than 60kt when it gets to that latitude. There have been multiple instances of F2-F5 tornadoes hitting downtowns (Ft. Worth and Lubbock being notable examples) without skyscrapers blowing over.
