saltysenior
I've been without power for that long, longer actually.....freezer stuff is fine....fridge stuff no, Maybe time to buy a new freezer? in Minnesota why do you need a freezer ???? pull the plug on a freezer in s.c. in august and you better be able to eat a lot in 1 day
Thunder Road
Hwy 158 stays inland and rarely floods (only one minor overwash from Isabel) and the Wright Memorial Bridge (the northernmost one) is rather low compared to the other bridges. Anywhere north of Kitty Hawk or south of Nags Head is a definite no-go because it's just you and Route 12. If you absolutely wanted to chase, you might be okay in the middle. I've been down there for nor'easters that buried Route 12, the beach road is practically designed to be washed out at least once a year.

LVblizzard
The NAM isn't a tropical model, I know, but it's a little farther west than 18z by about 20 miles at 72.
Dunkman
For anyone who is thinking about chasing this hurricane should think twice about stepping food on the outer banks. I went with earl and for 60-70mph gusts and it was down right miserable and scary. The storm surge covered roads and I almost became trapped. And the sand dunes blew on into the road, this caused me to be stranded for 2 days. I can not imagine how bad it could be if a cat 3 or 4 hit. Do not chase anywhere near highway 12. I grew up there just take me along In all seriousness you don't chase on the outer banks though, you just sit somewhere. I'd much rather hang out around morehead city or go north...it's really no good on the outer banks.

Thunder Road
Is anyone afraid skyscrapers might blow over in NYC if the hurricane hits there? no but i'm definitely concerned about the statue of liberty being frozen in ice up to the torch If they survived a 5.8 earthquake 500 miles away then Irene should be no problem.
