jayson
Models have been a mess with this storm. First they have it slamming into Miami - Andrew style, then into SC / NC / and now trending to make no CONUS landfall at all.
wxmx
Weenies pulling for the rightmost solutions in the early days transferred too much momentum, now it's like trying to change the direction of a 5 ton block over ice

GFS has been stellar compared to a typical tropical scenario... picking up on this system WELL before it developed and had a good idea 8-10 days out. wxmx
GFS has been stellar compared to a typical tropical scenario... picking up on this system WELL before it developed and had a good idea 8-10 days out. But it could get it's record stained by the "after a streak of 30 something runs with a US landfall...Irene went OTS"
iceman56
Which weenie will be first to point out the westward 'wobble' or state that the storm is 10 miles left of the NHC track? And good ole JB will hang on to his Armageddon-Floyd track long past its own good.

crainjd
I'm in Virginia Beach. I just lowered my hurricane deductible from 5% to 1%. I'm ready for Irene's fury.
Sickman
Do the Bahamas produce much friction? Minimal at best. They're pretty flat. All the islands are low and flat, with ridges that usually rise no more than 15 to 20 m (49 to 66 ft). The highest point in the country is Mount Alvernia, formerly called Como Hill, which has an altitude of 63 metres (207 ft) on Cat Island.

jburns
Do the Bahamas produce much friction? If your wife wants to go there and you don't definitely. Storm wise, due to the lack of high terrain, not so much.
sugaree
its almost comical how much this thing has shifted east yea.. comical. or depressing... perhaps both. Shouldn't have gotten my hopes up for this one. well.. whenever the next Fran or Hugo comes ashore, I will be there, if I'm still living in central NC. on_wx
I don't know why the NHC didn't just post a hard right turn on their track maps. Every update the pathcast has gone farther and farther east. Why not just spare everyone the misery and tell us it's probably going to fish.
Riptide
lol, The mid-atlantic high can only go so far East. I really don't think it's possible for Irene to miss Cape Cod and NHC is playing smart by giving credence to the Euro. This is a million times more dangerous than Earl. Riptide
Explain, please. My theory is that, since the storm is already approaching 75W, it must make landfall somewhere in North America.
