It's a business, and there are a lot of wealthy viewers who live in New England who buy expensive products and you want them to tune in.

This is exaclty why TWC has referenced the East Coast of Florida so much up until this evening despite all evidence to the contrary...because there are a lot more wealthy viewers in Fort Lauderdale than there are in Wilmington, NC.

MSNBC specifically targets the I95 corridor from DC to Boston...they don't care much about Fly Over Country.

Oh I understand that. No one told Bryan Norcross to say "this may be the biggest hurricane in decades in the northeast" though.

Norcross was probably telling Williams' producers what they wanted to hear. It got him on tv...instead of speaking to 400 thousand on TWC, he was seen by 8 million on Nightly.

Unlike most people on this board I still like TWC, but I thought it was absolutely appalling that they rode the western outlier all day because it was the only model that kept the south florida population center in the game. Scooter's right...if this thing produces hurricane conditions north of Cape Hatteras this thing will be covered like no other weather event in history because there are a lot more eyeballs and a lot more wealthy people who live along I 95 as opposed to I10 along the Gulf.

Just imagine a Donna like track in this competitive media environment we're living on.

Just read Floyd dropped 15-20 inches of rain in NC...

This is correct. Eastern NC got hit by 3 that year, as I recall. There was another one about a week or so before, I think. They were flooded for weeks after Floyd! It was terrible.

Not much in SC where I was at the time. Heard all about the flooding up in SNE down at CHS were I was. My hubby (the hurricane nut of the house) was rather PO'd about that.

I like TWC too... I think they do a good job most of the time. But about Norcross he made that choice... but he shouldn't have said it lol.

I hope your family and friends in SC do ok with this... and good luck to you if you go to help

Thanks Dave, I really appreciate that! Couple very long nights ahead, but in the end all will be ok..........some really sexy towers around the center over the last 30 minutes, very intense.

I learned of the media hype from this college kid's status update on FB...I don't even bother with the news or much TV for that matter......he made an update something to the effect of "so I guess me may get raped by a hurricane this wknd".....and when I commented, he went on to state that his mother relayed to him that ch 7 was flipping out. :axe:

lol yeah-- what made me stop bothering with the news was in the mid 90s, when we had the back to back twin failings of the 1995 tropical season and the 1996 horrendous mess that was Edouard. That was it.

10-12" of rain up at our lat because it interacted with a trough.
