An 8 second exposure seems to be about right and set the camera to manual focus and use a light to focus appropriately. Make sure to have noise reduction turned on and keep the ISO <200 --------------------- Great photo's Nate! Nice, crisp captures
Sock Puppet
"Use a light to focus" you mean one in the distance? I'd say use bulb setting because if you get a flash within 4 seconds you wouldn't want the shutter to be open longer than that. I know I'm not Nate but... Yes, but I wouldn't use bulb unless I had a remote shutter release
Sock Puppet
Also very important is to use a high speed card otherwise you'll waste precious time for each picture to load on your memory card. And it goes without saying you need a tripod; even with IS, I can't do anything better than a 1 second exposure handheld.
Omahawx
You can't shoot lightning without a tripod, it just wont work lol. And yes I focus my camera on a street light before i point to the sky
