Why is JFK reporting a little over an inch?

Btw up here in catskills we had a thunderstorm

Around 4pm nothing since skies clear now. Missed out on any storms last Thursday and Friday everything developed east of is over ulster and Putnam counties.

They had 1.26" in one hour. The heaviest training rains were just to their east. I had 1.70" in one hour, over 2 inches in an hour and a half.

When was your first downpour?

2.28" At this rate I will pass Isotherm soon. ;) He doesn't deserve to get all the fun anyway :P He's greedy! :o

Isotherm, what's your total now? Looks like Monmouth got nailed...though maybe with the very heaviest just south of Colt's Neck.

I ended up with 3.02", and it's been thundering pretty much non-stop since 330 this afternoon (when the first cell moved through). Awesome night. I've had a few long duration T-storm events in the past week now.

And yes, we've been quite spoiled here in Monmouth between the very active convective season and historic winters. :weight_lift:

Got 0.82 inches total today, 0.12'' from a pop-up cell that came through early this afternoon and 0.7'' from the storms tonight.

Incredibly when I was outside a few minutes ago I still saw lightning from the storms to the south even though they're all the way down in Ocean and Burlington counties now.

Still falling? Meh, I have a ways to go to catch up, 2.30" here now. But we did get a lot more than you last Sunday ;)

Thanks Tom.Later on tonight,we will get more thunderstorms with the cold front.I dont remember your area of Monmouth ever getting hit like it has been this whole summer. You must have well over 20 inches for this summer

It sure feels like it Andrew. Even after today's rains I'm still below NYC for August, although much closer now. I'll have to check the exact numbers but I think I'm near 9".

Nope it's finally over. Sounded like the house was getting powerwashed for about an hour there. Yeah you guys got the jackpot last Sunday with 6"+ rains. Maybe we'll see widespread 5-10" across the area if Irene passes overhead. :devilsmiley: The greed's starting to kick in again.

Yes, that would definitely get us over 20" We already have over a foot so it wouldn't take much more lol.

I'm surprised we haven't seen the classic posts, "imagine if this were all snow!"

LOL Im hoping they know better than that. Besides, we can anticipate that in about 4-5 months, with all the hot July, rainy August analogs we have on the table. BTW-- it doesn't matter whether we have a named tropical system get up here at all-- at this point, it looks like a safe bet we will have A LOT of rain. It's hard to envision a track with that not happening unless it recurves too sharply.

I wonder if the people on this board that all gung ho about heavy rains and tropical storms and flooding have basements. My basement flooded badly last week with the 8-9 inches in Brooklyn still barely drying out now. Now snow I understand but heavy rain bla just causes damage and brings pain to people I can't get excited about that.

Hey Jake, do know what site i can get monthly numbers for New brunswick(rainfall, temps, temp departures...etc) Thanks

Hey --

You can get daily data from the New Jersey WeatherNet site (2004-2011), and monthly data is available from the NJ State Climate Office (Total Precip, Snow, and Mean T, Tmax and Tmin). Please note that the averages used there are for the entire data period, not just the 1981-2010 'normals' from NCDC, etc. (unless otherwise specified - in the case of New Brunswick, the averages period is 1968-2010 because of station moves).
