A-L-E-X
Yeah that was incredible. Nothing compares to last September for me. That was once in a liftetime. 2 separate confirmed tornadoes within 5 miles of me plus a 125mph macroburst. That was historic for me too, just to see all that was going on. I think that's crazier than I've ever seen the city in anything but our biggest snowstorms.

My area got hit with the full force of that macroburst.I will never forget that sound of roaring winds and my living room window bending inward and the downed trees in front of my house and my block and Woodhaven Blvd completly covered with the tops of sheared off trees and whole trees. The Bus Shelter winow blown to bits by the 7-11.The payphone being ripped out of the wall and carried 250 feet.I could go on and on. Still remember going to the tornado zone by Sundog's house in North Flushing and watching the devastation in awe. Driving around that area was like being in a movie. Then the next morning going to work in Bayside, the 2nd tornado zone and seeing even more devastation. The macroburst damage was stunning as well by Queens College. I think that's crazier than I've ever seen the city in anything but our biggest snowstorms. That storm cost me nearly $30,000 in property damage between tree removal, completly redoing my front yard, the roof and my front walk which was destroyed by the tree completly uprooting.I got off easy though compared to others. One guy on the next block had 3 cars totaled by 3 seperate trees falling on them. I was talking to a guy who lives just down the block from me.He is a professional storm chaser. He goes to the midwest every spring. He said that this was the strongest macroburst to ever hit any area in the State of NY.That in of itself is just amazing. THe 8/8/07 EF2 tornado in Brooklyn though is the champ.

CAT5ANDREW
What is a macroburst? I know what a microburst is, but not a macroburst. A Macroburst is just a bigger form of a microburst. It covers a larger area.

A-L-E-X
rain this month has been very very impressive, what a turnaround. Let's find some summer analogs when a month averaged 80+ for a month with multiple 100+ days and we had over a foot of rain the following month. nzucker
All these people who go gaga over these small thunderstorms like we got tonight and last night-- they are nothing compared to what we got last Sunday and hopefully next Sunday also.20-30 min and even one hour storms dont really impress me..... I need the long duration big rain and snow dumps. This was a much bigger event here than last Sunday...I got 3.35" of rainfall from that last event, but it was spread over 2 days. We had similar amounts of rain in this thunderstorm, and it came during 2 hours in which I was on a delivery shift...the highways like the Saw Mill were literally rivers of water washing over the car's windshield, and the thunder/lightning was nonstop. Truly an impressive event in Westchester, and I was driving the entire time. Made a decent amount of money, however. This was best storm of year for NYC, NW Queens and NE Brooklyn. Hands down. Looks like backedge of line in Jersey is starting to increase in intensity. This was the best storm of the summer here as well. Not sure how much fell as I don't have a rain gauge and both Wunderground Scarsdale and HPN seem to be low, but I'd estimate we had about 3". It was accompanied by riveting CG lightning, thunder that shook the windows, and winds, as well as a significant temperature drop. Really one of the best events in a long time despite not meeting severe hail/wind criteria.

nzucker
18z GFS shows widespread thunderstorms developing with the cold front Sunday, and then another chance for heavy rain with another frontal passage later next week. Once again, a drought is erased quickly by ridiculous amounts of rain in a short period of time. -RA 65.4/65 Thunderstorms have taken a bite out of the warm temperatures, assuring that we see a near normal minimum tonight. Analog96
Man, I wish you had a rain gage so we could compare. I had 0.43 last night, 0.11 so far tonight. My power hasn't gone out yet like it did last night. 1.14 today. 0.56 yesterday. Since August 1: 12.36"!
tmagan
Someone should tell Amy Freeze that some of the Doppler Radar Rainfall Estimates are 'hail contaminated' and should be disregarded.
