not a huge storm but this just adds to the insane monthly rain total, .50 so far. Imagine if we get somekind of weakning TS end of the month...

All these people who go gaga over these small thunderstorms like we got tonight and last night-- they are nothing compared to what we got last Sunday and hopefully next Sunday also.

20-30 min and even one hour storms dont really impress me..... I need the long duration big rain and snow dumps.

Not everyone got hit last Sunday.

Tonight was Manhattan and NW Queens turn. No storm has come close this year.

It was? It's an ordinary thunderstorm with lightning lol. Last Sunday was truly historic :)

These are tstorms. They don't affect everyone.

Last September was the best storm ever for Queens and shaft for most other areas.

Tonight the line rapidly weakened as it passed LGA.

I got clobbered while Sundog, 6 miles to my east saw nothing special.

Those hit Manhattan, Brooklyn and western LI too.

I mean, you can have training thunderstorms like last Sunday that dump heavy rainfall over a wide area. That's what I like :)

I can do without the lightning, I've lost thousands of dollars worth of equipment because of it on multiple occasions-- this area is prone to black outs and brown outs.

You mean those insane rainfall rates? I thought everyone got them and no one had less than five inches lol.

The rainfall rates here during tonight's storm were the best this year. Plus the winds were easily past 50mph and incredible thunder and lightning.

It's finally pouring now (nothing compared to yesterday though) but the lightning & thunder is extreme.

No hail though.

Man, I wish you had a rain gage so we could compare. I had 0.43 last night, 0.11 so far tonight. My power hasn't gone out yet like it did last night.

Seriously? Meh, they have to last a long while for me to consider them comparable to actually getting 3 inches of rain in an hour lol. I haven't seen high winds in any storm yet this year.

Last September was just in a league of its own for most of Queens.

Last night, I got nothing but thunder, lightning, and a nice breeze. Today, an above average storm, probably just under half an inch of rain, and a nice light show. Gusts to around 45mph.

Even if you weren't in the center of those storms, those were historic-- for all the news coverage of the damage caused by those storms, they were historic for everyone. Weather doesn't have to occur over one's head for it to be historic for that person. Just hearing about macrobursts and tornadoes in the area and seeing all the damage on TV made it historic. That coupled with the scorchingly hot summer and sandwiched between two great winters, made it the most exciting weather year of my life so far. Those far exceeded anything that's happened this year because of the sheer impact they had on the City and surrounding areas. It was like we were in the middle of a war zone-- remember all those awe-inspiring videos and how we were pretty much the center of attention for the whole country? Nothing could compare to that!

It just doesn't seem impressive to me, Andrew, to get 4 inches of rain rates for 15 min (1 inch of rain total) vs actually getting 3 inches of rain in an hour.

It rapidly deteriorated right as it passed LGA.

It was at it's peak over NYC and western Queens.

Also for eastern NJ.

I missed last night here but it did looks pretty crazy on my webcam. Some trees down around the area.

I play volleyball in Long Beach on Thursday nights and everyone had to bail at around 8:00 when the lightening started moving in. The drive home through Island park and Oceanside was intense. It seemed like we were being followed by bolts of lightning and crashes of thunder the entire way back to Manhasset. The storm ended up being much more enjoyable than the few games we got in at the beach.

I know and if we get more on Sunday and possibly remants from a tropical disturbance before the month is through, we'll have incredible monthly totals.

You wanna know what was historic? That **** Mike got in the Poconos! Amazing! :)

Yeah that was incredible.

Nothing compares to last September for me. That was once in a liftetime.

2 separate confirmed tornadoes within 5 miles of me plus a 125mph macroburst.

I know, it'd be cool to compare and be able to actually keep records.

The nearby weatherbug station says 0.27 inches so far in this storm. Dramatic temp drop too, they're at 64 but I'm at 70.

This was a great storm as far as lightning goes.
