Bodhi Cove
Of course I can Effective 10 a.m. Friday August 26th Queen Anne’s County has declared a State of Emergency as Hurricane Irene moves towards us. All areas west of the Route 50/301 split are under mandatory evacuation orders effective Noon Friday. We expect all residents in the effected areas to evacuate by noon Saturday at the latest. Residents should evacuate either north on Route 301 or west on Route 50. The Bay Bridge will close when winds reach or exceed 55 miles per hour. Be advised: Emergency and County personnel will not be dispatched during the height of the storm to avoid endangering personnel. All businesses in the mandatory evacuation areas are ordered to close effective noon Saturday until further notice. There are two emergency shelters; none of which are located in the evacuation area. Church Hill Elementary School and Centreville Middle School will open their doors at noon Saturday. Pets will not be allowed in the shelters; except for certified guide dogs. All evacuees should remember to take along medications. http://qactv.wordpress.com/ Thank you Five Alarm, my relief at the Pennington Ave bridge, lives in that area, and is due to relieve me tomorrow evening.. We were wondering about the Bay Bridge closure wind requirements, as well as the getting through the Kent Narrows area. I just emailed this to him, and he isn't too thrilled about it either. Kicking Up A Storm
Question: Isn't Hurricane Floyd 1999 a better analog here than Isabel? I was in the suburbs of Philly and only in 6th grade for Floyd (Had pretty good flooding in that area, school shut down early. I remember we lost power, too....) so if this is a good analog, what was Floyd like for DC?

jacindc
I think in DC you can get sandbags filled by the city near the Nationals Ballpark. I was thinking since everybody was getting in on the sandbags I should get some for my 6th floor apartment. Never can be too safe. Yes, down at New Jersey & K SE, limit 5 bags per person. But it's an absolute zoo there, an estimated four-hour wait, with streets blocked off because of the crush of traffic.
H2O
Yeah, that does sound kind of useless... I'm assuming sand is one of the things that flies out of home improvement stores, so it isn't like you're going to be able to buy sand. Just use dirt from your yard. It makes holes to hold the water AND fills your 5 bag allotment. Win-win.

I would definetly not wait hours for only 5 bags even if I was living in a flood prone area.
WxUSAF
SPC's high-res WRF from 12z today shows some pretty good showers/storms moving through tomorrow afternoon with some outer bands. Kmlwx
Pretty strange that Carroll County continues to be left out of the TS Warning area given the general strength and trajectory of the hurricane. Carroll County is not on a tidal waterway...... The most they could get is a inland tropical storm force wind warning. They are not the same. You can't get a tropical storm warning unless part of your county borders water.

Bodhi Cove
first time thats been in there ...PROBABILITY OF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS... THE CHANCE FOR HURRICANE CONDITIONS AT THIS TIME IS VERY SMALL. ALSO...THE CHANCE FOR TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS AT THIS TIME IS UP TO 65 PERCENT. THIS REPRESENTS A GENERAL STEADY TREND SINCE THE LAST FORECAST. THE ONSET OF TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS COULD START AS EARLY AS SATURDAY MORNING. Kmlwx
MoCo folks and people in general are really starting to piss me off. I guess it's partially the medias fault. I was just at a gas station where midday is usually empty or one or two cars - today there were lines 3 cars deep. While pumping gas I heard two separate women call it "tornado Irene" and then they proceeded to act like MoCo was going to cease to exist by Sunday morning. I then heard a man say that it was starting tonight in the DC area. Tried to go to the store to get something for lunch and the lines were halfway back into the store. To be quite honest - from DC west this isn't going to be super bad. I could understand if I lived in St. Mary's. For some reason, people think that when the forecast for "Mid-Atlantic Beaches" is bad...that means DC too. I missed the memo when DC got changed to the beach. I agree. people act as if we're in low country NC. As long as I can get to 7-Eleven, I'll be straight. What do I need a full tank of gas for? I have 3 hospitals in under 10 miles from my house, countless restaurants and grocery stores under 3 miles, and a 7-eleven within walking distance. So, I'm straight. The only rush that is understandable is to buy generators because Pepco sucks.

That's still west of the consensus track, however. It's track up the west side of the Bay into central NY was a total outlier. Now it's much more in line with the consensus.
