wxlady
The reporter clearly did not research his topic. To wit, just go to CPC website and find the forecast for ASO 2012. This section of the story is downright outrageous and gives the impression that the author has some sort of axe to grind. From the story: Simply put, in the world of weather, long range predictions are unheard of. (REALLY?!?!?!?!!?... unheard of???) For instance, the National Weather Service forecasts out only to two weeks. It does have more general outlooks, but "there's a gap in weeks three and four" when it comes to hard forecasts, said Mike Halpert, deputy director of the service's Climate Prediction Center. calling for late August blowtorch and getting bashed by the meteorology community. http://www.foxnews.c...ust-scientists/
Typhoon Tip
calling for late August blowtorch and getting bashed by the meteorology community. http://www.foxnews.c...ust-scientists/ The idea isn't without some merit - whether it verifies, ...who knows. The NAO has lurched in the positive direction over the past 7 to 10 days, recovering some +2SD - that'd a helluva lot of mass field change and one that would support at least some SE to MA geopotential height recovery. More than one cycle of the operational GFS has been flagging large scale ridge genesis over central and eastern N/A as of late.
