Thunder Road
Wasn't running high prior to the event, long duration event, and heaviest totals along the lower portion of the creek basin I don't know I would call ~14 hours a long duration event. Although it makes sense that if the upper basin didn't get hit hard then we wouldn't see as much of a rise. Imagine if Doylestown had gotten 5-6 inches... Grothar
From the Allentown morning call newspaper this morning: Flooding that sent musical instruments and propane tanks floating down the Monocacy Creek on Saturday night brought an early close to Musikfest and has forced organizers to shut down some of the festival's grounds for Sunday, its final day. The rain not only flooded much of the music grounds this year, but its has apparently capsized its finances, causing the 10-day festival to lose an estimated $750,000 this year, according to Musikfest President Jeffrey Parks, who Sunday sent a plea to the community asking for donations to fill the funding void. With Musikfest experiencing rain on six of its 10 days, a first for the festival that this year expanded to the new $26 million ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in south Bethlehem, Parks said it faces major financial loss. "It is ironic that one of the reasons for the development of the ArtsQuest Center and SteelStacks campus was to spread our financial risk throughout the year, rather than depend primarily on 10 days in August," Parks said in a statement. "This year is our most vulnerable year with the opening of SteelStacks and now we are facing significant financial losses at Musikfest." » Weather alerts and forecasts delivered to your mobile phone.Text WEATHER to 52270! Message and data rates apply. TextSTOP Weather to quit, text HELP for info Even as Parks stood in a flood damaged section of Musikfest for a hastily called 11 a.m. news conference to announce Sunday's closing of Volksplatz and Handwerkplatz, vendors raced to load up their damaged equipment and stands before yet more rain arrived. For organizers of Hogar Crea, the nonprofit that helps addicts committed to turning their lives around, no matter how quickly they loaded the truck, it wasn't going to reverse the damage. Saturday night, the Monocacy came rushing into Hogar Crea's popular shish-ka-bob stand. Four massive grills bobbed in 3 feet of water, commercial freezers overturned, and 1,000 shish-ka-bobs — which would have been sold Sunday for $6 each — went plunging into the water. Musikfest is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Hogar Crea house in Freemansburg . "Basically, we lost everything – the food, the equipment, everything," said Ivan Delvalle, director of treatment at the Freemansburg center. "The Musikfest fundraiser usually carries us through the winter. I'm not sure what we'll do." When George Gilbreath – the Salsa Guy — saw the rains intensify Saturday, he frantically worked to clear out. He saved most of his salsa, and because he had no little equipment to lose, it was easier for him to find humor in his loss. "Just a few milk crates and a two-wheel hand-cart," Gilbreath said jokingly. "I'm hoping someone finds it downstream." The announcement to close venues came after the latest thunderstorm in what has been one of the soggiest festival in its 28-year history. A near-record 3.57 inches of rain hit the Lehigh Valley on Saturday, deluging the grassy Colonial Industrial Quarter section of Bethlehem and causing flash flooding of the Monocacy that caught some by surprise. ALSO: Thirteen people were forced from their homes when the roof of an apartment building on N. Seventh Street in Allentown collapsed in heavy rain Saturday night, police said. Allentown police Capt. Stephen Mould said officers spotted a large amount of water cascading from the front door of 139 N. Seventh Street shortly after 11 p.m. Mould said city rescue and code officials responded and evacuated the building. Yes we have had our share of rain too
SmokeEater
Sounds nasty down there. Let's hope whatever hits tonight isn't much. I expect pics, of course. A lot of my paper route overnight tonight, is where the precip max is in Salem/Cumberland/Gloucester Counties. I'll be sure to take some for ya. Don't know how good they are gonna be, with it being dark and all, but I'll take em.
al79philly
I dont doubt your totals at all. This storm had a ton of variability depending on whether you were under the highest rates of rainfall. I wonder if Trevose or Feasterville can confirm or deny my rediculously high total. Anyone up here get more than 5 inches?

tombo82685
Go back and see what DIX is estimating for my area i see your point, looks like its estimating an inch or so under the actual. But VAY was just south of the action today, so it would be interesting to see. Any mesonets around that area?

But VAY was just south of the action today, so it would be interesting to see. Any mesonets around that area? PHI reported just shy of 3". My suspicion is based more on the fact that it hasn't reported any rain actively falling since before 6PM, but reported 0.10" of rain between 6PM and 7PM, and between 7PM and 8PM. That's usually a sign that the tipping bucket is partly clogged.
