Would your local be wlos?

Local media finally covering the cold blast this upcoming week; Monday into Tuesday. Spoke of shelter openings and used words like "Old man winter is about to punch us in the face" or "this will be colder than we have experienced this week" and so on...

Im debating on heading up to Avery once again Saturday night. Blizzard conditions are great but snow in Cullowhee is just rare. Hmmm, choice choices

The Panthers will be fine. When Andrew Luck is wearing that Panther uniform next year everything is going to be alright.

Heres the early Super Bowl call......... Eagles vs Pats. Now if only we could get the NFL to play the Super Bowl at one of these stadiums we might be able to watch a Super Bowl with some snow. I'm tired of the Super Bowl always going to some town where the weather is going to be perfect.

If the Pats make the superbowl I am renting a movie that night. As for the weather I have been saying for awhile now the failboat has arrived. This one is dead an buried outside of the mountains. The snow nazi says NEXT!

You will get your wish soon. 2014 in NYC.

I think its ridiculous. I hope there is a blizzard, and the stands are empty because no one can fly in or out of NY.

I dont mind an occasional game in the snow for a novelty, but i prefer to see football played properly, not with people slipping and sliding and luck playing more of a part than skill.

Just think if last years game would have been played in say, Washington Dc ...would have been a disaster. I know some Saints fans in the Balt/DC area couldnt fly out and get to Miami for the game.

Sound like a dome boy yourself! Good to see a Saints fan. I was born in NO around Algeris. Make a trip once a yr to LSU and if Im lucky a saints game. 9-3 looking pretty with St. L this weekend.

O and i Forgot it never rains in Tiger Stadium. Never.

the 12Z GFS has a heck of a upslope event for Tenn/NC and has good snowshowers into northern Alabama and Georgia even down to Atlanta Sunday afternoon and night. There's pockets of -20 at 850 in Tenn and Ky, with the picture perfect wind direction for blizzard condition snows in northeast Tenn and western NC. Snow showers probably even make it across the Apps into part of northern NC as well. As for what falls ahead of the cold front in western NC mountains, still a very tough call. I'm not positive it will be mostly rain there. I won't be surprised to see somewhere between Asheville and Boone come out with a 6" snow event ahead of the main upslope event. But the upslope following looks amazing there. By Monday afternoon the GFS has surface temps freezing or below all the way down to southern SC and southern GA, which is much colder than this past cold wave. -16 is down to Atlanta.

Anyone care to venture a guess at what the weather looks to be like for Sunday in CLT during the game?

From what I can tell reading the models, the morning looks to be wet with most of the rain ending by early afternoon with falling temps and winds picking up after noon. Temps proably starting out around 45 at kickoff Am I correct on this?

Only reason I ask is that my sister is coming up for the game and I thought I would buy a ticket and go as well.

Thanks as always!

Yeah it looks like the worst conditions in the mountains in quite some time. It's going to be absolutely brutal. Same goes for us outside the mountains, easily going to be the coldest/windiest day we have had in a long time. GFS showing highs only in the low to mid 20s with 25mph surface winds..with gusts above 30 no doubt. Monday night the winds only relax into the 10 to 20mph range and with temps way down in the teens, that's going to be some cold stuff there.

hahaha..you are SO wrong on your last statement...

Went to a game in Tiger Stadium around 91-92 and it frigging poured. Deluge.

As for the Saints, Made it to the ATL monday night game last year and the NFCCG. Havent been to NOLA this year, but am going to ATL on the 27th. And of course, catch them here once a year. Last year it was friggin cold. Dont think it reached 30 that game.

Robert, how will the flow snow compare to the last event. GSP seems to think it might pull out as early as Tues. morning, that would have to cut down on amounts, true?

Foothills, Do you think there would be any mix precip outside of mountains (N.Foothills) ahead of the front ? What time are you thinking precip arrives ? I know this storm not for us but, I sure would love to see a good old fashion winter storm !!!

Nobody is more physical than the AFC right now but lets just sit back and watch. Looks like steelers game sunday could be blizzard conditions.

This is a total myth. The falcons have been blasting people all year and that falcons/bucs game was one of the harder hitting games we have seen in a while. The nfc south is always downplayed and ignored by the media and as usual they focus on the same few teams every year. That ravens/steelers game was no more hard hitting than the falcons/bucs game and it sure as hell wasn't as good. Collingsworth calling it the game of the year is absolutely ABSURD. The falcons have had 4 or 5 games this year that were more intense and more exciting than that low scoring game.

It never ceases to amaze me how if the steelers win by 3 or 6 like they normally always do, they are given all the credit in the world. If the falcons win close they are "lucky" or they barely scraped by. Same goes with the saints/bucs. So sick of the double standard in the media against the nfc south.

Yep, might even see a few flurries/snow showers here per gfs soundings. As cold as it is, if there is enough of it, maybe some areas can squeeze out a dusting in northwest Ga..maybe even down to atlanta. That's probably being overly optimistic though. However, far northwest Ga I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen..maybe even a little more than that.

I have never seen any team do what the falcons have done in the second half of those close games. Amazing how they find ways to win when their backs are against the wall!

I noticed the GFS closed off the low on the 12z run. Would this be why there is deeper wrap around moisture available?

Robert, how will the flow snow compare to the last event. GSP seems to think it might pull out as early as Tues. morning, that would have to cut down on amounts, true?

The last event caught me off guard and I never saw the final map on totals, but I remember you stating it was over a foot? I don't see why you won't have comparable amounts with this one. The ratios will be the most extreme you can get and theres a lot of moisture for lift. The models usually end it too soon, but even with a solid 24 hours of about continuous snow, it should be some widespread 6 to 12" amounts with probably 20 " amounts in the most excellent locations. The most important thing is to still wait and see for sure where the upper low and surface low lines up Sunday night and Monday, still not positive there, but so far it looks about as good as you'd hope. In the past, this type of track and setup nailed eastern Tn, w. NC even Asheville down to northern GA gets accumulations, imo. The temps and winds will make this a true ground blizzard.

Foothills, Do you think there would be any mix precip outside of mountains (N.Foothills) ahead of the front ? What time are you thinking precip arrives ? I know this storm not for us but, I sure would love to see a good old fashion winter storm !!!

Probably not, but some valleys in the mountains could have ZR or mix. The best chance for snow is west of you as well , just a little too warm for snow in frostyland on this one, but you have a good chance at some flakes on Monday with a few streamers probably able to pass over the northern mountains. If the GFS is right in its longer range, you have abetter shot at an old fashion winter storm in about 8 to 10 days.

hahaha..you are SO wrong on your last statement...

:offtopic: ...

Are you sure i am wrong? I was eluding to this belief... It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium

But yes I have been in a freaking monsoon atop the 400 level before. From a weenie perspective it was awesome. Not so much for my brother who doesnt care about the wx, extreme or normal. Speaking of my bro, he played basketball for LSU last year; as a walk on mind you but still cool. A total of 13 min is what he played last season.

Isn't there a sports thread in OT? lmaosmiley.gif

 Moderators prerogative :guitar: But No one talks about it there. :arrowhead: I do wish more southern folks talked about it there. It's rare to have an intelligent sports debate anywhere on the internet, but it happens here. I mean the team boards are just awful. You either have homers who always think their team is the greatest or trolls from other teams.

Seriously though, sorry for being off topic..back to the cold :snowman:

It's true the OT sports stuff isn't very good.... actually the disco here is much better than there on the topic.

On that note GO FALCONS! I've been waiting for this game all season....

Okay I have had my OT comment so now back on to the cold. It feels pretty good outside now considering where we have been the past couple of days.

Hey, what site did you get this from? Thanks.

Pay site but the same information is available on some free sites but I don't have the links.

I noticed the GFS closed off the low on the 12z run. Would this be why there is deeper wrap around moisture available?

Yes...but the previous run closed the 500mb low off too but further north. This run had the closed low further south and the whole trough deeper.

I totally agree..............:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

:lol: Being a displaced Bears fan here in the south, I understand your pain  FWIW....I've enjoyed reading the banter here instead of in OT :guitar: Now back to your regular scheduled program :)
