Chicago WX
Is it me... or am I seeing some supercells trying to form on KDVN? MD issued for that area. Chicago WX
And a funnel cloud report from the Cedar County storm. Yep. The cell south of Sterling looks interesting. cyclone close to getting into something maybe...his county under a SVR as we speak.

Chicago WX
Actually nice little supercell developing almost on top of Erie right now. Nice echo overhang and WER if not a BWER on that cell. Cells really starting to ramp up there it seems. Hope he's getting a chance to see them. Just some junk about to enter here, but at least IND's radar is working today. Chicago WX
Another funnel cloud report. 0220 PM FUNNEL CLOUD 1 NW VAN HORNE 42.02N 92.11W08/08/2011 BENTON IA TRAINED SPOTTER LAST FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES. JUST DISSIPATED
OceanStWx
Another funnel cloud report. That looked to me like a cell developed right on top of an old outflow boundary from earlier storms. Just enough vorticity around for a funnel, despite little if any rotation in the storm near Van Horne.
wisconsinwx
Interesting. Apparently a couple of funnel clouds were reported with the inland-moving lake breeze in EC Wisconsin. There is a Special Weather Statement out for it. Not associated with any thunderstorms.
cyclone77
Some pretty interesting supercell structure around here earlier today. Was stuck at work, but at one point there was a very nice looking rain free base and broad lowering in a non-severe cell. These storms were definitely rotating today. Very impressive meso vortex southeast of Kewanee Illinois. 77kts at 3000' associated with that.

Yeah there's a decent amount of vorticity in the atmosphere over Illinois this evening. A large cell along that developing line interacted with a strong outflow boundary and developed an impressive meso-vortex southeast of Kewanee. At one point radar estimated over 80kts around 3000', with some weak inbound winds just to the north. I think IWX was just being cautious, as these strong meso-vorticies have been known to quickly produce brief tornadoes.

That line not only intensified when it interacted with that boundary, but really spun up a nice meso with the enhanced vorticity available. OHWxWatcher
There was a tornado warning for this area around this time so makes you wonder if there was a touchdown. This is about 10 miles to my northwest. Wasn't home at the time but today's NWS survey confirmed straight line winds. Not sure how much damage occurred overall. OceanStWx
That little line is riding right along the theta-e gradient, and the meso spun up right along the gradient (since the outflow boundary enhanced the gradient further). Not only that, but you have abundant low level vorticity and 0-3 km CAPE to stretch it.

I'm sure there was some pooling going on along and just south of that boundary.

Chicago WX
Ha, IWXwx beat me to the punch. Narrowly missed here by a cell that'll go just north. Very dark skies in the north right now. Severe Warning out for the western portion of the county right now... EDIT: nothing here on the east side other than a sick lightning show in the west sky, but the airport getting it.
