Q and A:

Q: Why is my data not working?

A: Shortly after 11 AM CST, or 17Z Sunday, December 6th, the rogue Galaxy 15 satellite has knocked out the NOAAport feed as it passed/drifted just in front of satellite SES-1, which is where the broadcast is sent from. By passing in front of SES-1, it's blocking the uplink/downlink signal to and from it.

Q: What is Allisonhouse doing to mitigate the issue?

A: At 2:05 PM CST, or 20:05Z, Allisonhouse manually turned on a backup text feed which restored text-based products that are then turned into placefiles. As those populate with new data, they will come back up. METARs are not being sent to the NWS, however, so most of those are not coming in, and the few that are will be greatly delayed.

Q: What's affected?

A: This is what is knocked out completely...

1. All level 3 radar data

2. All satellite imagery

3. Metars (a few may sneak in delayed by an hour or more)

All textual-based feeds should now be back up, such as SPC outlooks, Local Storm Reports, watches/warnings, etc.

Q: What are we doing to mitigate this issue?

A: In addition to having the text feeds up, we are working on getting a backup radar feed via fiber. No promises, but we're trying to get at least a few main products working again until NOAAport comes back.

We sincerely apologize for all the difficulties. Stay tuned, we'll have more as we have it.

They can be damn glad I don't have access to any anti-satellite weapons.
