Thundersnow12
An inch certainly looks possible based on upstream radar returns alone and most models (hrrr excluded) had it becoming more organized into the evening. Im at work till 4 30 so hoping it holds off until 5 or so.

It's possible, especially since someone up in MN said they already have an inch, but i'll ride the low side...

cyclone77
Well this is weird. Started out as sleet about an hour ago, then changed to a mix of freezing rain and sleet. We then had a brief period of heavy sleet, and now it's snowing moderately with no sleet at all. Already whitened the sidewalks.

cyclone77
Ahh this snow is nice! Didn't really expect any snow here, so this is a bonus. Also makes me want more lol. I'm jealous of you Chicago boys! Enjoy the snow later on guys, you're gonna like this.
Thundersnow12
or sleet as evident above, probably a robust warm push with the waa. ya id think snow at the onset but possibly sleet on the backside of the precip shield.
tornadotony
ya id think snow at the onset but possibly sleet on the backside of the precip shield. I would even think some light freezing rain/drizzle is likely on the back end of the precip by the time it gets here...

csnavywx
If it were sleet, it should show up a bit brighter on the composite than it is on base reflectivity atm. Usually see some pretty obvious bright banding with sleet. Regardless, looks like I'll find out for sure here in the next 10 mins or so
cyclone77
FWIW when the bright band of returns was over us it looked a lot more defined than the fuzzy look it has now. I think that band became mainly snow soon after it passed through this area. When you loop the DVN radar you can see the change to the look of it as it moves east. Picked up a few tenths of snow here. All over with now.
csnavywx
Can confirm that the band is heavy snow with big, fluffy dendrites. Edit: Very heavy snow, best rates I've seen since I've been here. Can't see more than 2 blocks.

michsnowfreak
Calling for 1 inch here today from the NWS. Would easily be the best snow of the season so far, however with GFS/GEM qpf consistently a little over 0.10", and temps in the mid-20s, Im hoping for more. What are ratios like guys? DTX was thinking 12-1.
