About a quarter of the way from right hand side of the 1910 photo I think I see both towers of the Williamsburg Bridge!

93 in 2003.....69 in 1896....73 in 1975

On this date in 1962 6.5" of rain fell in Bensonhurst Brooklyn from a localized thunder storm...This caused a street sink hole that swallowed two cars on 62ST and Ft. Hamilton Parkway...I remember seeing the hole and it was at least 30ft across...

I remember that storm, I was living on 75th street off 11th avenue, about 2 blocks east of Ft Hamilton parkway.

Corner sewers became lakes. I recall the basement apartment floods. I was 15 years old at the time.

I lived on 64st between 11th and 12th Ave's...I went to McKinley middle school in the early 1960's...a localized deluge before the big drought set in...

I graduated St Ephrem june 1960. Memorable snowstorms 60 to 61. Mayor Wagner banning cars from the city etc etc. I remember the 12-8-60 storm. a two day 17.5" affair with very cold temperatures for so early in the season.

Picture seems to have taken nearer Greene Ave. & Fulton St. in order to see bank building looming that large in background.   Telephoto lens perhaps?

This 1962 event is known as the 'Brooklyn Deluge' and came in the early part of a 5 year northeast and NYC drought period.   Was returning (the hard way, with the 65th. St. Ferry---VZB was just two 700 ft. towers then) from a Boy Scout  overniter in Camp Pouch, Staten Island.   Driver of my car was a taxi cab driver by profession and he used his knowledge of side streets to get around the flooded area and back to Coney Island where we lived.

My compliments to you for all your almanac contributions over the years.  Here is a big thank you for your efforts and diligence.  Interesting to note that the two of us joined this BB one day apart in 2010  :snowwindow: and you beat by one day!

does this mean I'm one step a head of you?...probably not because you're in Florida before me...

Unc, your thinking to move to Florida one day?   If so, your going to go into snow withdrawal and miss the Noreasters.   Weather down here is kind of boring.   Hot with thunderstorms in the summer and nice in the dry season.  Once in a while some excitement to track a tropical storm or hurricane.  I've been living here for six months and like to visit and walk around the Disney and Universal Parks.

Measured .4" Nov 12 last year. It was actually pretty epic because I had niece over visiting from the Bay Area in Ca and it was her 2nd time she ever saw snow. She was 22 and ran outside in her Jammie's taking pictures. Here's on of mine.
