nzucker
the 92 on this date in 2009 was the hottest for the year...Tied on 8/17 during a four day heat wave...It was only the second time the hottest temperature for the year came in April...1976 was the other year...2009 had a very normal August temperature-wise after June and July were like -4F with 20" of rain. I remember the lush landscape that dominated that summer. I was working for a newspaper and unfortunately lost a lot of work covering sports because games kept getting rained out, even after I returned from Chile on July 4th when misery/cut-off season is usually over. RU848789
uncle - love these posts. Just curious - is there a website which has all the tabulated data on variables like temp, precip, winds etc., from locations like Central Park? I've looked and all I've found are sites which present the data in graphical form or via some form where one has to query for a day at a time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. I think trolley is crossing 84th. St., not 83rd. Compare fire alarm box at lower right in 1949 photo---it seems this would have to be 84th. St. since there is no box at 83rd. St. in today's view and these boxes probably never change location. Also perspective to church on right background looks right from bet. 84th-85th St. Other structures on right look newer than 1949 structures and of course would not match old photo. CIK62
one thing I've noticed from that web sight is some dates and locations aren't exactly right...I think Joe Torre or his brother had a sporting goods store near 83rd St a long time ago...I grew up not far from there...I was a few weeks old when that picture was taken...You are just a little older than I am---I was minus 3 months old when photo was taken! NYC Weather Lover
I run a facebook page in which I update viewers on the weather, and I wasn't sure what today's low was for Central Park. Was it 55 as reported by WABC or 43 as reported by WPIX? My guess would be 55, but I just thought I'd ask an expert to check the real numbers.
