 All residents know that it's "on" the Island, not "in" the Island. ;)

We got barely anything here-- just heard some rumbles of thunder, had some showers in between partly sunny skies LOL

I heard that there was 2 inch hail and it piled up 6 inches deep and 4-6 inches of rain? Wow!

Lol I say "in Long Island", I'm already ON Long Island (Queens) but not IN it (Nassau/Suffolk).

Edit: Nevermind lol, I get it.

Huh? I think either way would be fine. With the way people talk grammatically in present-day society, this "mistake" isn't that big-- if it's a mistake at all. Most people say "I live in New York City" or "I live in Nassau County," etc. It's not a big deal.

Do you have any idea of where the 2'' hail occurred and about what time this occurred?

Or does anyone?

Does anyone have any idea of the locations of the glass shattering hail on Long Island?

yea i think its new hyde park/lake sucess...which is pretty much the queens border to about 3 miles out into nassau county...where i am in albertson/garden city no shattered glass but all the traffic lights are out and it took me 45 minutes to do my 3 mile commute...

Seriously!? Damn dude that sucks. There was 1" hail in Rockville Centre.

You know it's bad when all of your high school facebook friends who don't know anything about weather are all making statuses about "the end of the world". lol.

A bit off topic, but whoever loses the Islanders vote tonight will blame this storm.

The funny thing is the storm absolutely crippled an area where many no votes would actually come out of.....the problem though is the LIRR was suspended and traffic got heavy causing some people to have a hard time getting home....again though, the majority of folks who work in the city who live on LI actually live on the north shore and not south....again, an area where there are likely to be more no voters than yes. Its an Isles conspiracy!

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1823

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

0518 PM CDT MON AUG 01 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...ERN MD...DEL...PORTIONS OF NJ...LONG ISLAND

NY...SRN NEW ENGLAND

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 711...

VALID 012218Z - 012315Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 711

CONTINUES.

RECENT RADAR IMAGERY SHOWS NUMEROUS DISCRETE AND SMALL CLUSTERS OF

TSTMS ADVANCING SEWD TOWARDS THE ATLANTIC COAST. THESE TSTMS HAVE

FORMED ALONG AND AHEAD OF A DIFFUSE AND WEAKLY CONFLUENT SFC COLD

FRONT...PLACED AT APPROXIMATELY 20 E MSV TO 20 SE CXY PER 22Z SFC

SUBJECTIVE ANALYSIS. ALTHOUGH EFFECTIVE SHEAR REMAINS MODEST /AROUND

20 KTS/ DUE TO WEAK AND NEARLY UNIDIRECTIONAL FLOW THROUGH THE LOWER

HALF OF THE TROPOSPHERE...SEVERAL OF THESE TSTMS CONTINUE TO DISPLAY

STRONG REFLECTIVITY CORES...LIKELY CAPABLE OF PRODUCING SVR HAIL AND

ISOLATED DMGG DOWNBURST WINDS. EXTRAPOLATION OF CURRENT MOTION

SUGGESTS CLUSTERS OF TSTMS OVER SRN NY AND WRN CT SHOULD REACH THE

ATLANTIC COAST BY 23Z. HOWEVER...THE ENVIRONMENT WILL LIKELY REMAIN

SUPPORTIVE FOR ADDITIONAL GENERATION OF TSTMS THROUGH AT LEAST THE

NEXT 1-2 HRS. A GRADUAL TREND DOWNWARD IN TSTM COVERAGE/INTENSITY IS

EXPECTED TO OCCUR LATER THIS EVENING WITH THE LOSS OF DIABATIC

HEATING.
