Jesus cant i ever get some good thunderstorms? All summer long they die out right to my west or miss me by a fee miles is the dt shield around me?

It's the same here. Today I had a t-storm miss me just a couple miles to my southeast, and then the 2nd round of storms tonight went to my north. Just saw the lightning well off in the distance. I haven't even had 1 strong t-storm here all Summer. Quite a few have gone just to my south in Middlesex County, and some just to my north through Union County. It's like Piscataway repells t-storms this Summer. But on the positive side, at least we've had a good amount of rain in August after getting almost nothing in July. Haven't had the t-storms, but at least some heavy rain recently.

Im in NW NJ and when I was out at around 730 pm, I saw 2 supercells to my east southeast that were awesome. I also saw another big storm to my N. I was out again around 830 and it was dark and could see the big storm to my N in Warren with frequent lightning. The others had gone. These structures were epic. Like real central plains stuff. I wish I had a camera.

This has definitely been the most disappointing t-storm season ever. Central Jersey sucks. Plus, I was supposed to go home today, too (to Long Island), but I got lazy and never left.

Last summer was pretty much the same story, here.

What was your rainfall? Did you get the 65+ mph gusts?

65+ mph gusts??? How on Earth did I miss that? It was windy but maybe 30-40 mph at the most. I was semi-outside during the storm.

I'm not sure about the rainfall (it rained hard and long though), I usually use a nearby weatherbug station but it reverts back to zero after 12 AM.

Is it going to rain Sunday?

Looks like later sun evening. Tomorrow looks nice and part or most of sun should be mainly dry. May even salvage a good part of today.

0z Euro has the topical storm (what is invest 97) pushing into the Carolinas next weekend. Prior runs were either into Fl or the GOM, gfs is into s-fl should be an interesting week tracking the tropics. Now all we need is the storm to develop.

Last night was the best t-storm I have experienced this entire summer (because we haven't really had any) and probably ranks high on the list for the last several years. That was some of the most vivid and frequent cg lightning I have seen in a long time. The best part was that it occurred during the night so the light show was spectacular. What an awesome storm! I am in the NW corner of Bergen County.

Yeah it has been a while for this area....i dont believe we had a warned storm hit us in 2 summers, it has been a very long stretch. Even when Perth Amboy had straight line winds last year, it was a pretty meh storm here..........Gkrangers moves from holmdel and it seems they are getting it pretty good now.......Here in edison i always expect to get the **** end of the stick.....and it never fails. Not bitching, just telling it how it is here.

The last good storm I had believe it or not was in March '10 at the end of the noreaster we had a cell move through from the east with hail and high winds. The last summer time storm was June '09 where I actually met the warning criteria.

Good memory, that was some very loud thunder during that cell in March 10. Back in 2006 we had a nive bow echo go through this area, and then another storm later that evening. To this day prob the best storm i have experince......

Oh believe me I remember. After 6"+ of rain the day before my basement had several inches of water in it, so when I awoke to thunder at 9am in march I was like enough already!

I didn't live here yet but this area got hit pretty hard from the derecho in '98. A confirmed tornado, 70 mph winds and alot of tree damage.

Already the wettest August for spots along the South Shore since 1955 with heavier amounts east of JFK.

Previous wettest August at JFK since 1955 courtesy of Hurricane Belle was 1976 with 8.30 inches.

So far this month several spots are over 10 inches with JFK close at 9.48 inches and

more rain to come.

I'm right there with you. Yesterday I saw rain for about 2 minutes, and had a tremendously loud thunder clap, but that was all. I know today when I decide to build a shed outside, we will get a storm though!

Definetly the best storm I ever experienced with tons of quarter size hail pounding my area on July 2nd. (Hence my username HailMan06)

That storm was beat by the supercell that hit Bedminster to my southwest when I was visiting my dad on July 29th, 2009. I got quarter size hail and a microburstwith winds around 65-70 mph. I'm sure you all remember that storm as is was tornado warned. It disrupted the Readington Ballon Festival and followed Route 78 to my location in Bedminster, to Summit, then straight into NYC, producing quarter size hail the whole time.
