Got up to 84.9F today off a low of 63.6F; it felt quite hot given what's transpired the last few days. I had to switch the A/C on for an hour and may need it for sleeping tonight. Quite a contrast from a couple days ago when we were stuck near 70F with heavy rain. Looks as if unsettled weather will be the rule again this weekend with thunderstorms possible Friday and then a major cold front Tuesday.

Yeah, I just sent the pic to a guy who bird watches for a hobby, its 99% a red tailed Hawk, although he did say it was the biggest one he had ever seen and without seeing the face could not be 100%Oh well, a cool site up close.  That thing wasn't scared by anything.

That is the nature picture of the decade. You hit the megamillions with that one.

Gorgeous weather for 18 this morning but the air was extremely dense from all the moisture still hanging around. Could not believe it.

Also, had a friend on the course with me

Wonderful pic and as others have said, that does look like a Red Tailed Hawk. Dude, you need to get a nice teleconverter for your camera and you could have had an amazing close up without fazing the bird! Also lower the exposure slightly to bring out more detail where the highlights are blown :)

No I am not mocking you,I am serious. That is one of the best bird pics I have ever seen and given the fact that it is a hawk makes it that much greater.

I showed this to an avid bird photographer at work land they agreed with me that pictures like this are extremly rare and in most cases never accomplished.

I snapped this picture from my friend's balcony in Bayside, NY this past winter. The bird since then visits the balcony almost daily.

I believe its an Osprey.

Here is a pic I took of one of at least 6 Osprey nests in Manhasset Bay:

Why do you feel the need to one up me? Couldn't you let me have my 15 minutes of fame?

I can beat you even more if you want.

How about dolphins in the western LI sound?

A pod of over 100 dolphins have come into the LI sound and came as far west as the Throggs Neck Bridge!

I encountered them on a friends boat this past Friday off of Fort Totten, Queens. Their aerial displays were stunning. I wish I had a real camera with me!

They are cell phone pics but you can make out the dolphins if you look carefully:

Beat this. Nothing rarer then bottle nose dolphins coming as far west as almost the east river:

HAHA. I'm sorry. My balcony picture is better then yours. If you look carefully, there is even snow falling.

:P

Except that no doubt you sat there camped out with lots of equipment and probably put bird seed or a dead rat on the balcony so the damn bird would appear. Mine was spontaneous with 50 pounds of clubs on my back with a cell phone camera and my bird is 10 times the size of yours.
