earthlight
At the current moment the convective support is not good in an area of subsidence and convective overturning behind the departing system on the front. However the models have an area of elevated cape approaching the area over the next several hours which could prove sufficient for thunderstorms through the evening. I thikn the atmosphere coming in will be pretty decent tonight. I love nighttime storms.

I love nighttime storms. yeah. same here. but for whatever reason i'm having trouble seeing the convection maintaining strong to severe levels as it approaches the area given when we cleared out and the amount of time we had to destabilize. Lets see what rolls in. Maybe we get the 00Z sounding before they approach, but its probably gonna be here right when the sounding comes out. TheTrials
What makes you say that? there is a good environment where they are now, and in fact, they have pulsed up again. Can't say they still last on there journey to us, but at least for now those cells look healthy.

famartin
Continue to be impressed by every rain storm that comes through the area. Even in a non-nino situations storms and storm systems continue to provide substantial amounts of rain. Its called summer. It happens.
TheTrials
Its called summer. It happens. Just because its summer doesnt mean every storm has to produce flooding rains.

Isotherm
I'll send you some of mine. Luckily this is only rain we're talking, if it were winter and I just witnessed 10-12" to my north and rain here, then I would force you to mail some of the snow to me. A-L-E-X
Signal is there and suspect the period from on/around the 18th starts to warm above normal with the potential for some heat between there and the end of the month. Wednesday looks like a decent shot for 90-- predicted high here is 88 and we usually overperform on NW winds
A-L-E-X
They often do, though. Nature of the beast. LOL my experience with summer is lack of storms. Dry summers are much more common here than wet summers.
nzucker
I drove from Dobbs Ferry to the Somerville NJ area to hike in Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, and the storms were torrential. Saw Mill River Parkway was dangerously flooded on the way to the GW Bridge, and I felt my car beginning to hydroplane multiple times, not exactly news given the Saw Mill's bad history with rainstorms. Thankfully, Westchester County is looking into solving the Parkway's drainage woes, but it will be an expensive solution no doubt. The local Wunderground station picked up 1.39" precipitation, and I find this gauge to be a bit low generally. Fog/Mist 71.1/70 W@5mph Another warm night, got the A/C running for the millionth time this summer. Thursday should bring more comfortable temperatures and humidity, fortunately. Yep, Thursday looks like the beginning of the pattern change. 90 is quite possible later today though-- but with a nice drying wind, it wont feel like it. Isotherm
Big rains on modelling this weekend, but I've heard that story a million times. Beautiful weather coming up, but I'm starting to get that post nasal drip/sneezing in the mornings. My allergies aren't nearly as bad as they used to be, but I can still sense the start of a new season, and ragweed is definitely out there. Definitely been a turn to rainer weather at least up this way--are we looking at a total washout or similar to last weekend where we at least had parts of 2 days that were dry.
