Semi-grotesque tropical feel here out in Port Jeff where showers departed about an hour ago. Pretty good rain this morning. Certainly would like a hot, dry end to August unless we can sneak a tropical storm in here. Hard to picture a place like New Orleans feeling worse than this right now

12z GFS continues to insist on big rains for the NJ shore today/tonight while the NAM has nothing of the sort.

85F and sauna out there. 76 dew.

Upto 88 here. We've really lucked out this weekend here, able to get both days in rain free and some sun. Today looks like most places will reach 90. I goto 8 yesterday and 87 on Friday.

It's wrong already. It had .50" thru hour 6, which is in 1.5 hours.

Then pounds Jersey shore with 1"+ from 2pm-2am and .50"-.75" for NYC.

decent morning sounding. Sweat is up there. A few supercells could be possible especially areas that have had good sun.

Def a saturated colum, so heavy rain/FF should be a threat. Lapse rates are meak, so the absence of cold air aloft should limit any widespread threat.

I hope so because right now the radar looks quite putrid

Certainly was with several periods of torrential downpours... only drought-like summer in the 2000's I can recall out here was in 2005...the t-storms find a way to pass through town...

I did get to 90 here before the clouds moved back in-- should reach 90 with ease again tomorrow. We'll be up to 17 90+ days here by then.

How come so many? I saw that JFK only had twelve....

Well they've also had 7 89 degree days last I checked-- some of those ended up being 90-91 here, as I'm 3 miles away from the Ocean lol.

Sounds reasonable to me...

Did you hit 90 today? Tomorrow will be even hotter-- though less humid (yay for that NW wind expected tomorrow lol.)

The high was 86.7F today in Dobbs Ferry, but felt worse with the stifling humidity.I've emptied the basement dehumidifier four times in the last two days, and the bucket holds around 1/2 gallon of water.

Kind of difficult to imagine we could have such high dewpoints with NW winds...looking forward to the first autumnal cold front on Thursday/Friday, going to feel wonderful. This is the time of year when you start to see the first signs of cold air building into the high latitudes on the models, and you dream of a crisp October day with leaves dancing in fresh NW breezes. You can see the return of the -10C isotherm at 850mb on the GFS at 180 hours, always a good sign of the sun setting:

I would love to see these temps and dewpoints, but the most likely scenario is for temps to be 5-7 degrees warmer but with hopefully keep the lower dewpoints. The models always have a cool bias this time of year especially. The SSTs are to warm at this point to really allow any cooler air to reach us.I will be happy with lower dewpoints and temps in the mid and upper 80s.

BTW,Larry Cosgrove believes that we are done for the truly scorching heat.Hopefully that is the case.

Actually I dont think you would mind it if it touched 90 degrees but the humidity was like 20%-- it also means more comfortable sleeping weather and deep blue skies :)

90 is to warm for my tastes.Give me 83 and 50 dewpoints and I will run with it.
