A different day in Asheville today! Cooler & lower dewpoints.

Yeah...I was about to comment on how today felt really good outside. That early August sun is stll plenty hot enough but the air was very clean today. No haze at all which is rare for this time of year. I'm really looking forward what happens with the trough in the next week. I know we're getting towards that time of year where the winds can quickly shift back and forth from a refreshing airmass to a tropical steambath. Speaking of the tropics, I still want something to track over the next 6 weeks.

Everytime I've went up there it was a case of being in the clouds or mist. Is the little museum still in there? I'm hoping that one Summer month we could see snow coming to the summit, and I get up there to get to experience it...even if just a few flakes. I'm not sure when the last time it snowed in August, but I know there's cases of every month. I just noticed the zero line at 850 showing up around Hudson's Bay in the longer range...a sign that the jetstream is wanting to begin its annual sag.

The clouds & mist or rain are the norm for us. Last year we got stuck in a thunderstorm & temps dropped to the low 50s. Today was some of the best weather and views for a summer trip I have seen in a long time. The museum, gift shop, and snack bar are still all there. I know in some areas school has started but I was really suprised at the lack of traffic both up there and on the parkway.

I am right with you Marion! kinda excited about the next week & would like to see something spin up in the Gulf.

No signs of heat waves on the GFS the last few days. That is a nice sight to see. With how late in the season we are getting, the truly horrid heat could be over for most or all of us.

Don't forget last summer! The wretched heat may be just beginning, lol. And lasting until Nov.... I can't put a stake in summer until the first major cold front...and even then I'm leary :)

I was in "THE SPOT" today!! It rained 4 times.....Lots of thunder and lightning with the 3:00 storm....What a great day  Unfortunately....you should see the hedges.....:arrowhead: Those things don't trim themselves you know :gun_bandana: :gun_bandana:

Good for you! That thing blew up right over me, but the rain didn't find the ground until it was south. Never saw a drop...but the lightening and thunder had a kicking fight right overhead. T

In Savannah, we are experiencing a narrow band of heavy tstorms (oddly, little or no thunder so far). This makes it three days out of the last four with heavy afternoon/evening tstorms. The grass is saying "thank you very much".

Had at least three straight hours of rain at the house yesterday. I just wish it had held off another hour or so; my ride got cut short :(

Storms missed me to my north, south and west last night......but I did manage to be sideswiped by that last remaining cell about 11:00ish that gave me a very quick .24 :weight_lift: There was one close strike of lightning just before the rain, that was so close to the house I could hear the "zap" and the hair stood up on my arms just before the thunder boomed. This morning walking the pup I noticed the strike at the bottom of my oak tree that sits about 15 feet from my bedroom window. Glad it hit there and not the house

So beautiful this morning. 64 degrees and very clear. Lots of mist off the lake. Looking forward to a few days in the 80's. Family reunion here this weekend. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Looks very unsettled this weekend. Rain at any time of day and night , Saturday and Sunday...ending Sunday night around here.

Thats too close. I've seen some trees around here I think were struck and killed by lightning this Spring /Summer.

Feels almost comfortable outside right now. 86°, but a DP of 'only' 61° :) Gonna go take the mower for a walk and start getting things in shape in anticipation of the potential of rain in the near future. It's encouraging to at least see chances of rain in the forecast from tomorrow night through Sunday.

OK... I'm sure everyone has seen this at some point but for those that haven't...

Dear diary, just moved to Texas

Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an

air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to

see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th:

Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus

and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me.

Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:

The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used

to this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting

used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th:

Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my

body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my

lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:

I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning.

By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up

to the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car

now smells like Kibbles and ****s. I learned my lesson though. No more

pets in this heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun strikes again.

July 25th:

The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot

as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman

charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th:

Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and

I can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come

here?

Aug. 4th:

Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost

$500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state.

Aug. 8th:

If another wise ass cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to

strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is

boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug. 9th:

Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the

seats in the car, I thought my ass was on fire. My skin melted to the

seat. I lost 2 layers of

flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass . . . Now my car

smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

Aug 10th:

The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot

and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do **** for 2 damn months

and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it

ever rain in this damn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700

worth of cactus will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't

live in this damn heat.

Aug. 14th:

Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot

to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The

installer came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for

you today?" My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail.

Freaking Texas . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live

here?? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.

It was close  Before the thunder cracked overhead, my pup jumped from the bed, out of my bedroom and to the other end of the house.

She wouldn't come back into my room all night...lol :(

theres a nice meteor shower coming up this weekend, and the peak is Friday (i think). Looks like a lot going against it though, with east winds here in NC at the surface, thats almost certainly going to be a cloudy night, and even if there are breaks, the full moon is going to put a hamper on the viewing. Its almost lined up perfectly this time to be the least viewing possible, no matter how you slice it. As an avid amateur astronomer, bums me out. Its the best meteor show of the year usually.

It looks like a major change in the pattern is certain now, starting this weekend. With the incoming very deep trough in the East, then another strong trough or s/w helps to keep the longwave trough in the east for a while. The bad news to this, chances are any trop. system coming at the Southeast coast would get swept up and recurve out into the Atlantic, unless it was perfectly timed to get in here between fronts. But the season is still young and we need a pattern change. I'm looking forward to the weekend filled with clouds, cooler weather and periods of rain.
