Took a couple of shots from yesterday's departing thunderstorm. Looked absolutely beautiful and everything had an orange/pink color to it.

Oooooo,...pretty. It looks pretty similar to the pics Foothills put up last night.

Nice shots. Everybody around here was commenting last evening how strange the sky appeared. Glad it wasn't just me that saw it.

Our sirens went off for a minute or two; if I had to guess because of the second warning (over Richmond Hill and those areas). Picked up about 0.25 but most of the storms formed south and east of us.

Never heard any sirens here (I've actually never heard tornado sirens, period.) but storm was pretty decent - not a lot of wind, but quite a bit of rain. Light show over the ocean was fantastic..... circulation was noted in sky but was very broad and not even close to forming a tornado.

What radar site is better for you guys here? I seemed to get much better shots on BV and SRV from the Jacksonville radar.... whereas the Charleston radar was showing a lot of inconsistency from scan to scan.

Looking past this heat and muggy weather, the GFS is still showing a really good cold front coming through the Southeast being pushed by a fresh high (not real strong though) around Sunday or so. The model has dewpoints on Monday a refreshing 50's and 60's in a good part of the Southeast. I know its a ways off, but it looks pretty reasonable on the longwave that comes through..also, good rain coverage out ahead of the front Saturday night into Sunday for most of the Southeast. Compared to what we've been through, it will probably "feel " like Fall Sunday night and Monday atleast.

It also has the northern mtns of NC and TN going into the 50's with 40's in the mountains of West VA (actual temps). Not bad for August (if it happens).

Man... that would be awesome. I'm ready for the heat to be over and am so ready for fall, that's got to be one of my favorite times of the year. Of course, it's my driest time of the year too which puts a damper on the fun weather, but I guess you can't have it all.

We really need a tropical system or two to hit to help us out and strong fronts clearing the coast usually dont lend themselves to helping out in that. We cant seem to string together several days of good rain, we will get a good 1-2" day then nothing for a week but mid 90's so we are taking 1 step forward then 2 step backs and if we dont get caught up before the fall and our typical dry season we will be in terrible shape. Ponds here are already lower than they were even in the drought several years back, and I havent seen a cornfield yet that isnt gonna be a loss, the cotten looks ok but its late flowering out and the beans in some spots are in pretty rough shape.

pretty good chances at something organizing in the South today. I've noticed the temp profile shows a strong gradient in the Plains and Mo. area by 48 hours, the models are hinting that a low pressure will develop on the front and come east/southeast Thursday and Friday. Thats a new fly in the ointment, it may mean we won't get nearly as dry and cooler Friday like earlier thought. The Sunday front still looks good though.

No signs of heat waves on the GFS the last few days. That is a nice sight to see. With how late in the season we are getting, the truly horrid heat could be over for most or all of us.

Yeah once we get past Mid August we usually are past the worst of the summer heat. TWC has a high of 84 for me on Monday with sunny skies. That would feel nice !

TWC is garbage imo, getting better but they rely too heavily on computerized forecasts like accuweather. Dry air has a tendency to heat up quickly. While it may be dry and sunny Monday that 85 is probably a tad low imo...

Did N.GA miss the storms today? Or will it be later tonight? ... I thought we would see some storms by now.

Most everything initiated south of Metro Atlanta today. It looks like there are some firing in west Georgia now but the big show missed us south by a bit today....

88/75 HI 97 still really hot today but it's obviously the humidity as we did not crack 90 here in Marietta....

In Savannah, we are experiencing a narrow band of heavy tstorms (oddly, little or no thunder so far). This makes it three days out of the last four with heavy afternoon/evening tstorms. The grass is saying "thank you very much".

A different day in Asheville today! Cooler & lower dewpoints. Took the family up to Mt Mitchell this afternoon for our annual Blueberry and raspberry foray. 61 degrees up top at 2:30! Long range views from the summit today. Sorry no pics....dead batteries in the cam. :arrowhead: Ran down the trail from the top to the campground with my 12 year old son. Only about a half a mile and I am feeling it tonight....getting old I guess. Blueberries are light this year and we were about 10 days to early. Did ok on the raspberries. Forecast for Weaverville over the next week looks great. Maybe it will slow down my runaway powerbill!

.getting old I guess.

try running up the mountain next time :P Only thing I could have done was coasted down it. I haven't been there in years, but I understand the old tower is gone. Next week will definitely be much, much cooler in the area, probably everybody experiences the cooldown in the Southeast. All models have a strong trough carving in the Tenn. Valley on Sunday, even with a low pressure shown on both ECMWF and GFS right over the Apps, that runs up the East Coast.Don't see that much in August...followed by a nice cool down.

Haha, no way Robert! The old tower is indeed gone they have new one up there which is nice but....its not the same. One thing I don't like is that they took away the plaques that told you what you were looking at. Still got some great views looking toward Lake James & out around the Linville area. It is truly a different world up there.

Everytime I've went up there it was a case of being in the clouds or mist. Is the little museum still in there? I'm hoping that one Summer month we could see snow coming to the summit, and I get up there to get to experience it...even if just a few flakes. I'm not sure when the last time it snowed in August, but I know there's cases of every month. I just noticed the zero line at 850 showing up around Hudson's Bay in the longer range...a sign that the jetstream is wanting to begin its annual sag.
