DaculaWeather
Are you referring to this? http://en.wikipedia....ki/Undular_bore I was reading the Birmingham AFD and they were talking about a bore wave coming down today, I thought "cool"! What the hell is a bore wave!
FoothillsNC
Robert (or any met), what's a bore wave? I had never heard of it, but read that description Moto put up. Sounds similar to a gravity wave. Dewpoints mixed out all over western NC today (SC too) to mid 60's. Really hot scorcher with not much cu development so far. But the trends are for something later on, if not today then tomorrow for one final shot probably before the cold front comes through late Wed. SPC is thinking development in ARK soon as well. The temps went from 94 to 76....was a nice gust front just before it hit too.

FoothillsNC
Got the gust front here but the rain totally went around me, got a few drops. I saw that. Just got back from Ingles when it was starting and I could see the area south was definitely going to get it, but probably no further north than 180/226..amazing just how many times this has happened this season now. But they are fast movers, but wow the lightning is still bolting like crazy all around here, even though the rain has mostly stopped. I'll check the gauge , last I looked it was .25" which came down extremely quickly. It was enough to make all the cedar needles float in the driveway, usually that takes a quick quarter LOL. Yea its happened quite a bit lately. I did however get .34" yesterday, where just south of me got very little. That was enough to turn the grass a little greener, but the majority of the yard is still dark brown.
NGTim
Lucked up with a tiny pop up that dumped a quick .20". At least I don't have to water the garden for a day. same here. haven't checked the gauge yet, but probably around .2 or .3 I suspect. Very windy. objects that weren't tied down blew around, and leaves and limbs on the roads. power is out at the moment and I have the generator going because it seems to take a long time to get our power back on, I guess it is where we are on the line. As always, one house down still has power, so I think they are on a different line. no need to water the garden, as almost every pumpkin out there has been eaten by something. only thing I have left is my tobacco plants, and they are doing pretty well. november rain
Looks like all the stuff today lost the intensity or stayed to the North before making any progress into my area to cause a little rain only, oh well maybe Tuesday afternoon... adamrivers
On Tybee Island, GA, under a tornado warning. Was 98 degrees and oppressively hot today. Took some interesting cloud shots but if there's anything it's rain wrapped now.
FoothillsNC
Looking past this heat and muggy weather, the GFS is still showing a really good cold front coming through the Southeast being pushed by a fresh high (not real strong though) around Sunday or so. The model has dewpoints on Monday a refreshing 50's and 60's in a good part of the Southeast. I know its a ways off, but it looks pretty reasonable on the longwave that comes through..also, good rain coverage out ahead of the front Saturday night into Sunday for most of the Southeast. Compared to what we've been through, it will probably "feel " like Fall Sunday night and Monday atleast. It also has the northern mtns of NC and TN going into the 50's with 40's in the mountains of West VA (actual temps). Not bad for August (if it happens). jshetley
Had the gust front come through with winds of around 50mph then got calm. But just when I thought we had missed out we got more high winds and .25 of rain. Brings us to .50 over the last 2 days. Hoping for more rain but without the high winds. Didn't seem like much of a storm in town even tho we were under a warning, but on the way home there were lots of trees & big limbs down and tons of debris in the road. gtg947h
On Tybee Island, GA, under a tornado warning. Was 98 degrees and oppressively hot today. Took some interesting cloud shots but if there's anything it's rain wrapped now. Our sirens went off for a minute or two; if I had to guess because of the second warning (over Richmond Hill and those areas). Picked up about 0.25 but most of the storms formed south and east of us. GaWx
Our sirens went off for a minute or two; if I had to guess because of the second warning (over Richmond Hill and those areas). Picked up about 0.25 but most of the storms formed south and east of us. Got hit hard on the southside for ~30 minutes with very heavy rains (~1" of precious rainfall), a good bit of lightning, and strong winds that I estimate were 40 mph or higher. This was the 2nd day of the last three with very nice rains over a very thirsty lawn. 100F officially today at airport! It cooled off ~25 F from this. ryan1234
Had an awesome storm roll through Indian Trail. Had the works! Lots of cloud to ground lightning. Blinding rain. And winds gusting over 60mph! Still thundering as I write this. I actually thought today would be quiet given the mixing but as the afternoon went on you could definitely feel an increase in the humidity. What a great way to end a Monday. Things are so much greener then they were two weeks ago. Btw I recently went on vacation to LA and on my way back I had a layover in Dallas. I could not believe how brown Dallas was. It looked very desert like. I hope they can get something in the form of a tropical system there. They need it.
dsaur
Had .2 a few hours before dark, and now it is pouring again! It cooled off enough for me to split some wood after the first rain. Maybe this one will give me good sleeping temps! T
