Good morning,

It is mild this morning with a low of 8.0C.

We now have 9.2C, it is overcast and windy.

Apart up north, temperatures are around 7/11C on the territory.

About forecast, it may stay overcast and windy, with rain showers and a high of 14C.

Have a good day acute.gif

I am loving your updates from the Yukon, can't wait to hear from you in the winter.

And yes, the fall colors are beautiful. Are those mostly aspen in the Yukon? We just have a few trees turning here in New England, still a good month before peak foliage season here.

Someday will make it up that way. Have been to the Rockies in Banff/Jasper so have a bit of a taste for alpine Canada, but the Yukon mountains are another level of extreme.

First round of an interesting active pattern coming up today. Pardon the crude drawings.

Northern Pacific shortwave going to phase with the southeastward moving Bering Sea trough and deepen as the warm moist air wraps under the cold core. Sensible weather effects here in South-central Alaska most notably will be the increased precipitation with onshore flow in coastal regions and a strong barrier jet as the flow is blocked by the Chugach Range. This will increase the surface ridging as the surface low moves into the northern Gulf to die. The stable WAA regime prevents the flow from moving over the terrain and turns it westward. In winter these events are exacerbated by cold air in the interior which will flow out of the mountain gaps.

I noticed the same thing....thinking the Aleutian Chain to about Kodiak and over to King Salmon in Alaska area may see 45-55 kts at sfc.

Good evening,

Thank you nzucker :pimp:!

We have spruce trees, pines, birches, ...

You are very welcome here, I will try to keep on posting pictures of the area !

Today, it was overcast, cool (no more than 12.1C) and windy.

The weather conditions seem too have been better north and west, but rainy on Whitehorse and in the south.

It was the good weather to go running, to prepare the house for the winter and do some shopping.

Tomorrow, it should be better with some sun.

That's it for now, ciao flowers.gif

We have now 10.2C, tomorrow should be mainly cloudy and cool, but weather conditions should be better for the rest of the week.

Ciao thumbup1.gif!

Very nice pics man! Makes me really look forward to October down here.

Today's 12z sounding from Cold Bay and Kodiak....we were the closest two sounding sites to the storm.

WOOO HOO....I'VE GOT 239 J/KG OF CAPE....better issue a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for the Alaska Peninsula.....j/k....but still pretty unusual for out here....usually our "CAPE" season is with the slantwise instability in the winter systems....:lightning:

Just a question, what does +SN mean? Sorry, I come from France :pimp:!

We had a great day today with sun and warmer temperatures 6.9/17.1C. It was however quite windy.

Tomorrow, it will be sunny, but a little bit cooler.

Have a great one !

Ha, +SN = heavy snow. It is the surface observation term used by the surface observing system here. Light, moderate, and heavy are the discriminators used for precipitation rates. So, for instance, light snow would be -SN, moderate snow would simply be SN, and heavy snow would be +SN. Good question though. Thanks for all the nice pictures up there...should be a fun winter up there. Just curious, how did you end up there from France?

I am stupid because I noticed it on surface maps....

To answer your question, I wanted to settle in Canada. My dream was to experience great cold winters, nature, wildlife and to have a good balance between my job and my private life. I found all of this here.

I settled in June 2009 (after 2 trips), and I really enjoy the place.

This morning we got a low of 5.3C, it is still windy but sun should be here for the day.

Temperatures from 2 to 9C in the territory.

To end my post, some other pictures I took yesterday evening in my area:

I really enjoy this weather. And colours are really beautiful now .

Tomorrow morning, risk of frost, friday some rain, the weekend should not be so bad.

Have a great one !
