wxmanmitch
I had a supercell storm that passed through my area on Wednesday (7/27) that produced what I believe was a funnel cloud. Although I can't say for certain, my meteorological knowledge leaves me to believe that it was, in fact, a funnel cloud. It was a low hanging mass of clouds and had a bit of a swirl to it as it moved from NW to SE. It was located on the southwest corner of a supercell thunderstorm that had rotation on the doppler radar velocity image, in the spot where you would typically expect to find a tornado if there was one. There was a bit of mild wind gust, maybe 20-25 MPH as it passed through. There was considerable straight line wind damage and hail in the meat of the storm a few miles to my north in Pittsfield, but not much here other than brief rain, wind, and the possible funnel cloud. This same storm prompted several tornado warnings as it moved SE of here toward Chicopee, Wilbraham, and Monson. It was pretty cool.
