Thundersnow12
Lots of clouds all day, and now a few showers this evening have dropped over a tenth of rain. Was really hoping to see the northern light show tonight, but it's not gonna happen. probably wouldn't of been able to see them here if it were completely clear, I have before but its rare. I really nice day here today, should say evening was perfect. Going to try to get some golfing and fishing in tomorrow.

I have only seen one truly epic Northern Lights show before, and that was back in 2004 in Mount Pleasant, it was so bright I thought it was the moonlight off a cloud before realizing that it was to the North. cyclone77
The KP was at 8 before sunset, which was more than enough to be visible this far south. Just after sunset it dipped to 7, which should have been at least slightly visible this far south (northern Illinois). It's at KP-6 now, so it's pretty marginal, but with all the cloud cover it doesn't matter anyway lol. Hoping for clear skies tomorrow night in case there's another major solar flare. snowstormcanuck
Happy birthday Mike. A scenic winter scene, shot by our own Hoosier back in Feb 2007, for you of better times ahead... Thanks Tim. Over the last month I've frequently looked at my own collection of shots like that. Really helps keep me encouraged during the doldrums of summer. Ok, back to hibernation. I'll check back in when I see my first -10c isotherm on the GFS.
cyclone77
Picked up about 1/3" of rain late last night and early this morning from some slow moving rain showers. Just enough to keep the crab grass encouraged lol.

I think it's nearly impossible to see them here in Lake Orion due to all of the light pollution...unfortunate because I would really love to see a good Northern Lights show. I'll probably end up taking a trip to Alaska one day though lol. Heck I wouldn't mind working in Alaska...I can think of worse places to work in the U.S.

dmc76
Today is day 41 of the 80+ streak at DTW, tomorrow will tie the record. Looks like it should live on for quite a bit. I dont see this trend ending for quite a while. even next week temps will be around 81-84 each and every day.
hm8
I dont see this trend ending for quite a while. even next week temps will be around 81-84 each and every day. 850mb temps <10C would make that difficult... DTX agrees A SECOND COLD FRONT IS ON TRACK TO COME THROUGH TUESDAY...WHICH MAYFINALLY BREAK OUR STREAK OF CONSECUTIVE 80+ DEGREE HIGH TEMPERATURES AT DTW COME WEDNESDAY OR ESPECIALLY ON THURSDAY. CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE WILL DELIVER THE COOL AIR...WITH SUB 10 C 850 MB TEMPS NOW BEING ADVERTISED (PER 00Z GFS)...WHICH WOULD TRANSLATE TEMPS BELOW 80 DEGREE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...EXCEPT POSSIBLY THE URBAN HEAT ISLAND OF DETROIT. ALTHOUGH...TRAPPED MOISTURE/CLOUDS UNDERNEATH SUBSIDENCE INVERSION ON MONDAY COULD ALSO PREVENT TEMPS FROM REACHING THE 80 DEGREE MARK AS WELL. Chicago Storm
Today is the 21st consecutive 80+ day at Chicago/ORD. With the next 7 days expected to be 80+, breaking into the top 10 should be easy. 1. 46 days - 7/2-8/16/2010 2. 42 days - 6/27-8/7/55 3. 34 days - 8/10-9/6/95 4. 32 days - 7/16-8/8/83 5. 30 days - 6/20-7/19/21 6. 29 days - 7/21-8/18/88 7. 27 days - 7/11-8/6/99 8. 27 days - 6/18-7/14/66 9. 25 days - 7/22-8/15/2007 10. 24 days - 7/23-7/26/2005 Today is the 24th consecutive 80+ day at ORD, so we are now tied for 10th. It looks like the next three days should be 80+. Wednesday is expected to be in the upper 70's (NWS), so it will be interesting to see if the streak will indeed end of if we can pull an IND. GFS MOS is showing 80+ through at least Saturday.

wisconsinwx
I could use some rain, but in this pattern where all the MCS' miss 90 miles to my north or 90 miles to my south, it looks like it just will not happen.

I haven't cut the grass for a long time..its pretty long but staying green by not butching it like the neighbors browning stuff so F'em if they don't like it.. But yes we could use some rain. I see winter playing out like last one minus the blizzard.. So about 40-45" here and lots of frustration trying to get all snow events early or snow for that matter into the blocking and dry air. Feeling another share the wealth winter is in store and hopefully a blizz thrown in in a different area of the southern MW/Lakes that will appreciate the awesomeness more than I did. It's a start towards the best seasons....AVG high temp back down into the 70's

Trent
Some hot numbers here at the Lakeshore in Cleveland: The last time it has dropped below 70 degrees here at BKL was 12 days ago on July 27th when the low hit 68. The last time it has dropped below 65 degrees was on June 30th. The last time it has dropped below 60 degrees was on June 15th.
Chicago WX
Is it me or has IND's radar been down/had issues "a lot" this year? Tantalizingly close miss of the storms to the north of here. SVR to boot.

cyclone77
Picked up a few hundredths early this morning as the weakening line of storms blew through. I was asleep when it hit, but the weather station says 26mph gusts. I see MLI had a 52mph gust. Looks like a much cooler week on the way compared to the last several weeks. Will be nice to get a little break from the intense heat and humidity. Might even get a day sub 80. Can't remember the last time that's happened. cyclone77
Some decent cells ongoing across far northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. They're pretty isolated, but if you can get under one you'd probably get a very heavy downpour and maybe some pea size hail. Instability is sort of marginal (1500-2000j/kg), but effective bulk shear is above 30kts over parts of northern Illinois. May be just enough to get a brief pulse severe report over the next few hours as we approach peak heating.
Chicago WX
As of the 4PM climate report, ORD has totaled 15.52" of rainfall since June 1st. River Card
managed to get 3 seperate thunderstorms yesterday for nearly an inch of rain. Looking forward to 7 days of upper '70s. Yeah looks like a refreshing stretch of weather to say the least. Does the heat return or is this pretty much it? I have to admit, I love heat, but after this July I got my fill, now is the time to enjoy the 'perfect" weather. I swear fall time around the GL is the best period.
