hidden tresures, yeah i like finding goods and collectibles, find old rare things, what not

40s by mid week, temps in the 50s to 60s are possible on new years, then a cold front

We may be in the 40's midweek and the 60's by Saturday - but that has about as much chance as your 500 mile swath of 16"+

I'm just curious as to how warm is too warm.....

....I want to say it was like 35 in Boston

I'm just guessing on this, but I thought I heard the NHL say that the temps can be in the low 40s and they can still handle it. It wouldn't be ideal, but playable I guess. Probably also depends on how much sun there is as well. Now, rain I think is the bigger concern for them. Rain could really mess things up. If they can't play it Saturday, I guess they'd try it again Sunday. Hopefully a front would move through by then and cool things back off.

Yeah, I am worried about the rain as well. Temps could be an issue with the GFS depicting a pretty strong system cutting to our west. Pretty far out right now though so hopefully it can hit us the day after or just evolve completely different. Look at the problem the models had with this current system.
another fresh 1/2 "....perfect white xmas...no complaints here too much!....<img src='http://www.americanwx.com/bb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Snowman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':snowman:' />
We'll be good as long as that pesky sun doesn't come out too much today. I'm not sure how much on the ground makes it officially a white christmas? An inch maybe? If that's the case then I'm cutting it real close IMBY! I might have a hair less than an inch on the ground. It would be nice if we can have a decent snow shower move through after sunset tonight just to coat things up a little more for tomorrow. :)

Snow lovers on the east coast are loving the 12z GFS right about now! Philly, NY, And Boston get clocked on this run.

You know what, I had a pretty strong feeling last night, that today's model runs would pull those folks back in, and keep the hope alive. LOL

That being said, I did notice the 12z GFS 500mb and 700mb panels actually weren't half bad looking, even for us here in the metro.

Looks like another cross country heartbreak. We won't get in the 60's, we will be +5-+10C when the front pushes through next weekend. So alot of cold rain and then back to seasonable cold with no snow. We need a pattern change at this point to mix it up or it maybe more pineapple expresses going from CA to NC and then our to sea and we get nothing. I did read that we will get a pattern to more warm. So maybe a warm relatively snowless January then a flip back to cold in Feb with us making our season averages in Feb through St. Pattys.

Not sure about watching the coastal anymore - way too late for us. I think the GFS gives a nice hit to I95, but now I think the Euro is east.

The NAM shows a pretty prolonged period of snow showers due to the closed H5 low --> shows 5" or 6" by Monday. The NAM in this range typically requires cutting those totals in half, so 2-3" or so may be a nice consolation prize.

As far as next week....no doubt some models are showing a warm up by the weekend. But talk of "record highs" at this point is....again....as unfounded as the 500 mile 16" swath.

haha

If your in Eastern PA, NY, New England there going to get blasted with snow

I am glad that we will pick up an inch or two

Now the next storm looks like a land bomb and will pump extreme warm temps for winter standards

It still looks like it will be mainly the coast and New England that will get the brunt of the storm.

I will be very happy to get 1 inch of snow tomorrow morning and afternoon. I will get snow and can still travel.

12 inches of snow would make for a stressful day. I don't need that on Christmas. :snowman:

Looks like storm on for East Coast..I-95 gets crushed Balt to Maine..

Well, not necessarily....really just the GFS is showing that, and it's the outlier.

I've never seen a storm that has been on and off the table like this one. Also....it's amazing how two different models have shown it - but not at the same time. The Euro took the lead with it......then went out to sea. Meanwhile, the GFS shifts. Really, a forecasting nightmare. I have more faith in the GFS version holding because this goes against it's bias. The Euro run coming out shortly should show a lot. It's getting really late not to start coming to a solution.

how much new snow did everyone get, I got about 3" new snow this morning, nice surprise on Christmas day.

:snowman:

Merry Christmas

Barely a coating but I still had about an inch on the ground from before. Missed the steady snow by about 15 miles. :arrowhead: Still was nice to have some snow flying and a white ground for Christmas morning so I'm not complaining. Merry Christmas everyone!

Time to pay attention again...this storm might end up so huge that it actually throws snow back this way! All the gds ens members have us in the .25 qpf range and only about 50 miles from .5. We might actually see a couple inches from this which would be remarkable...,

I only checked the 6z GFS and it does look so close. 12z NAM though is still well the to east. If the 12z GFS is the same as 6z or a nudge west and the other models are similar we could be in line to get a couple inches. I hope so since my daughter got a new snow suite so it would be great to have a chance to use it.
