cwc
heck, i got 8 inches of snow here in Gibsonia on Route 8, some it drifting, and i can see areas getting a foot of snow, that band is couple reform pretty soon, it goes through stages, weakens one point then strengthens again, northern allegheny county and southern butler will have 8-12 inch totals, maybe some 15 or 16 inch totals also, just watched WPXI, Julia Bologna says 1-3 inch totals, , she sucks at weather forecasting, she should be gone for real, after calling 3-6 and we get 2 feet last winter Just for the record, I live in Allison Park, right off Rt 8 and I have nowhere close to 8". 3-4", but hard to tell with the blowing. psnnstater77
Ok, then, i think someone in the region will see that, a widespread 8 to 10 inch snowfall is a good bet, i got 8 inches already outside All i just have to say is this is one of the Best LES events i've seen You need to report your snow total to NWS.. Highest I have seen in ALL County has been 4"

The best setup again was North near 422 and North and the Highlands.. You read one poster who lives near New Castle say they were getting hammered and according to NWS and Traffic Cams this was true, New Castle probably saw between 6-8", another poster who lives near 2000 feet was getting pounded and of course this will be true due to orthographical lifting that always happens during LES Events. Looking at Parkway North Cams in Northern part of the county I can't see anyone getting that much snow, its possible, but at a very low percentage. We all know the locals were poor in February.....but it doesn't mean they will miss everytime. Also, I would still like a forum that is inviting to them, as we can use the more professionals from our area. Sure, kids are more than welcome.....but now the next page will be about arguing whether or not his total was correct. I'd rather have a more productive forum, with more mets lurking so we can learn. The highest 24 hour total among Allegheny, Butler, and non-mountainous Westmoreland that I found was 6.5" Pleasant Unity in Westmoreland had the highest 2 day total at 10". You can't base Northern Allegheny County snow falls off what Pleasant Unity gets. PU sits at the base of the highlands, they usually do pretty good in these events. In fact Latrobe, Ligonier, PU, Kecksburg usually do quit well.

Paweatherguy1
So back to the weather....6.2 inches at the airport... I think most areas saw about 3 or 4 inches in the Northern half of AGC, but I would say that there can be pockets of 6-8 inches scattered around depending on if you got under a band. LES is just very tough to forecast obviously as you can have an inch at your house then drive 2 miles and have 5 inches...I think overall the NWS did very well with the forecast. north pgh
I think NWS did a great job with the forecasting of this event. They had me with an inch or less Sunday, 2-4 on monday and 1-2 overnight. The local tv mets scared everyone with the sunday forecast. We never did get any snow until late Sunday night. LES are hard events to call. Someone will always get 4 or 5 and others will get 1 or so just like the last storm. The blowing snow makes it hard to call as well. I have about 4 or maybe 5 on the ground but is has blown around so hard to tell.

lwg8tr0514
Pretty close to all... Lets not turn this into a Met bashing thread, Why we don't have a Red Tag now. Oh nobody here hates the Mets, to the contrary. It was well chronicled and confirmed over at Eastern the local talking head weather readers are all about marketing. Marketing in the respect that the average Pittsburgh Joe is not a fan of cold and snow, it's a hassle to commute in , your power bills double, etc. That being said why would a TV Weather Met get enthusiastic about cold and snow., he would not last long. So good marketing says if you can call a storm\snow total at the very low end of a forecast , you will and do it and with good cheer. Demetrius Ivory last Winter did this, the February storm he got tons of emails from weather enthusiast imploring him to look at the latest models...his response was posted on Eastern, that he was not interested in what the models had to say, he was going to do what he was going to do...i.e. his bosses told him to downplay the threat. Well he got caught with his pants down badly. I posted his snowfall mad for the night before, he showed my location 4-6" when I got 30". That's not forecasting, that was guessing on his part and turned out to be a damn dangerous guesstimate. I am not going to get all political but I DO think the Global Warming garbage also comes in to play, make the average guy think the Winters are getting warmer and less snowy and Summers are more hot and dry. The NWS chief got caught also red handed pulling this stunt. The NWS has gotten better, 3 years ago they were a joke, they would say 35 and rain and you could count them being the reverse barometer that is was going to snow 6". Bashing the NWS got so bad, the mods had to start sticking up for "Government Weather" and began banning any and all criticism of them. I am glad we have not reached that point. I have no issue with someone posting contrary opinions, even being a party pooper, but at least have some factual basis and not wish-casting and personal agendas. Off the sopabox now.... I do agree to an extent...it was absolutely baffling last Feb when Demetrius did that. The NWS did very well...they kept on upping the totals, and adjusted, but they started out in the 6-12 range. When there was 5 inches of snow on the ground at 6 that night, the locals were still saying 3-6.....which to you and me, who are informed and can see that will be wrong, doesn't affect, however, to the average joe, they see 3-6, and I seem to remember a lot more people being out based on that forecast. In any case, the locals did fine with this event, so no need to bash here, but last feb was bad...I can understand predicting 6-12, and then having to up because more and more is coming. But how can you predict 3-6, see 5 on the ground, and stand by that. I'm sorry, I'm done now....
