high quality update from gino

STRONG/SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS HAVE RAPIDLY DEVELOPED OVER OGLE

COUNTY. ACARS SOUNDINGS STILL SHOW A FORMIDABLE INVERSION AT ORD

WHICH RAISES SOME QUESTION ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THESE STORMS.

HOWEVER...WITH SUCH HIGH DEWPOINTS POOLING AHEAD OF THE BOUNDARY

WOULD NOT ANTICIPATE BOUNDARY LAYER TO COOL/STABILIZE ALL THAT

RAPIDLY THIS EVENING. SHOULD THE ASCENT DOWNSTREAM OF THESE STORMS

WEAKEN THE INVERSION...AS TOOK PLACE FARTHER WEST IN DVN...THEN THE

SET-UP WOULD BE VERY FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH

DAMAGING WINDS.

GIVEN THE RECENT TRENDS AM INCLINED TO THINK THAT WE WONT SEE THIS

BATCH OF STORM WEAKEN AS QUICKLY AS THE INITIAL LINE THAT DROPPED

SOUTHEAST OUT OF WISCONSIN. IN FACT...I WOULD SAY THERE IS A

FAIRLY HIGH LIKELIHOOD OF THIS LINE OF STORMS BEGINNING TO BOW OUT

WITH AN EVENTUAL RISK OF WIDESPREAD AND POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT

WIND DAMAGE IN A CORRIDOR EAST TOWARD THE CHGO METRO OR SOUTHERN

CHGO SUBURBS. IN ADDITION TO THE WIND DAMAGE THREAT...THE INITIAL

LINE OF STORMS OVER THE NORTHERN BURBS LAID DOWN AN EAST-WEST

OUTFLOW BOUNDARY WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY ADD AS A SOURCE OF ADDED

STREAM- WISE VORTICITY SHOULD LINE SEGMENT BEGIN TO BOW

PERPENDICULARLY INTO THAT LEFT OVER BOUNDARY INCREASING THE THREAT

FOR MESOVORTEX FORMATION AND POSSIBLY A QLCS TYPE TORNADO.

WHILE STORMS WILL LIKELY BEGIN TO ACCELERATE...THE VERY MOIST

ATMOSPHERE AND HIGH FREEZING LEVELS WILL MAKE THEM VERY EFFICIENT

RAIN PRODUCERS. WHILE FLASH FLOODING THREAT ISNT HUGE...RAINFALL

RATES OVER 2 INCHES PER HOUR COULD OCCUR FOR SHORT PERIODS OF

TIME. SHOULD ANY STORM INITIATE AHEAD OF A DEVELOPING BOW...SAY

ALONG THE LINGERING OUTFLOW BOUNDARY THEN THE FLASH FLOOD THREAT

WOULD INCREASE. WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS POTENTIAL.

i had a feeling we'd see the front go off back there, but on the plus side for not chasing, it's getting dark quick...everything about nightime chasing sounds unattractive to me.

Decreasing daylight hours have been in the back of my mind as well. Last Wednesday evening west of Freeport on those tor warned cells was maybe twenty minutes pre-sunset with usable light still around, but it didn't take long for things to darken up out there. By that point things went linear anyway, but it was still a different ball game that I wasn't exactly excited to play.

12z SPC WRF FTW. Kind of I guess. :)

Hopefully it has/had the right idea, as it brought the line down through here...in a weakening state, but still we'll take what we can get.
