Soory I have not posted. Just got my power back and I even live in an underground conduit subdivision. I had about 10+- inches of snow. After 6 inches, stopped caring because the damage was done. Lost a lot of limbs on my trees. Macungie Mt and the Borough of Emmaus area took a beating. The entire Borough was out of power still yesterday. This was by the worst storm event for our area. Maybe now some of these naysayers will wake up when an Ice storm is predicted. Its one thing to sleep in a house where it is 70 degrees inside, another when it is closer to below freezing outside. I got down to 25 degrees last night and it was 48 degrees in the house. The township is going to pickup tree branches rather than leaves the couple weeks. A storm to remember. I would ban this storm for analogs usage

Glad you are ok, sucks what happened to your region. Lets hope for dry, mild weather the next few weeks so all of eastern PA can get a breather. From droughts to floods and now snowstorms all in the course of 4 months. Crazy.

Welcome back!

My power is back also!:snowman::thumbsup::snowman::thumbsup:

72hrs outage.

Still many branches hanging on wires so lot of work to be done for power crew.

The 7 to 10 day forecast looks A+ with drying!!!

Can't wait to dry out the soggy yard.

Lot of clean up this coming weekend.

Chain saw is ready to go.

did that for 8 hrs straight at work...i have bout another 4 days straight of chainsaw work to have the course finally cleaned up. The chipping pile at our work looks like carnage of trees, and we are probably like 25% cleaned up

It's hard to imagine going that long without power. The longest I've ever experienced was 28 hours. To those who have it back, glad to hear it. To those who don't, I hope you are restored soon. As for me, I'm headed for Louisiana for a Friday morning delivery south of New Orleans in Houma.

Amazing Mike. I live less than a half mile from you and we never lost power. PPL came through 3 years ago and whacked everything within a country mile of a power line. I wasn't happy then, but I see the wisdom now.

Glad to hear you guys have your power back.

Now those crews might be working on the line that snapped down the road here.

Going onto hour 70 without power here:(

At least it's not "that" cold.

Driving north Sunday, I passed a lot of power trucks heading north from the southern states. Driving back south yesterday, I saw even more heading north. I guess the local crews need breaks and if they don't get relieved soon, the work pace will slow quite a bit.

I was told from PPL troubleshooters at my house on Monday that the grid system was all messed up because of the substations taking a hit. Fuses popped and when they did, they did not know where to send the electricity to work around the popped fuses. Reliability of flowing electricity was a major issue. That is why trouble shooters were actually walking the lines before they activated them again

The was a huge caravan of Georgia Power crews trying to get onto the NJTP this morning, I say trying because unfortunately they decided to close the left lane for construction so you had a massive backup from 7A all back down past the toll both on the PATP extension. Maybe given the circumstances, which was still 188k in NJ without juice yesterday afternoon, some real-time adjustments could have made with the construction schedule.

talk about hand to hand combat. That makes for a long struggle. We also need to remember that some major lines go straight up a mountain and access to those lines is difficult on a nice summer day let alone a snow and tree clogged access route up elevation. I heard that is/was occurring on South Mountain in Emmaus which was especially hard hit.

This reminds me of the circumstances that allow a jet full of people to sit on the tarmac for 7-8 hours with everyone "powerless" to do anything that makes sense. Not enough brains involved to connect the dots, and no one with enough gumption to take action...

Northampton County State Rep. calls extended power outages "unacceptable"

Joe Emrick, R-Northampton County, says:

“When citizens pay their utility bills, they do so in anticipation of not only enjoying the convenience of having those resources at their fingertips, but with the expectation of maintaining accessibility to them when interruptions take place. It is within reason to expect delays when weather events such as the recent ‘October surprise’ took place. It is unacceptable and unreasonable, in this day and age, and with current technology, to go without electricity for the period of time we are being told residents are being asked to do.

I don't know if this guy is using the recent situation as an opportunity to make a name for himself or what, but I think we all know that this was a storm that was unprecedented, in that the Mt. Holly CWA may see 1 or 2 of this type of widespread damage per year, and you can't predict to what extent and where the most severe damage will occur.

What do you all think?

Joe Emrick was a former Salisbury Township commissioner- still a fool. PPL troubleshooters told me that most of the limb trouble was on easements that never received tree cutting because people who Emrick represents bitched to him and others that they did want the trees trimmed on their property. Personally, its high time that Met Ed and PPL tell these property owners that either let us trim the the trees or we will supply the public your name and address so they may file a class action lawsuit against you for property damage Electricity is too valuable to be missing from of our daily lives activities and we depend on it for too many things now. A state law needs to be adopted to give utility access to these power lines for trimming and maintaining. Apparently easements are not enough.

My figures may not be totally accurate, but PPL alone had to deal with extensive damage to 10 high voltage transmission lines. There were also apparently some 1,500 transformer fixes that needed to happen. Like you mentioned above, there were no doubt countless tree damage related repairs. Unfortunately, these type of fixes are labor intensive. It simply takes time to fix.

Now, if he is implying that the electrical infrastructure needs to changed, then that's another debate that will cost a lot of taxpayer dollars. Probably worth the investment, but a tough sell in this economy.

Damage here was much worse than for Irene.

I have heard/read this type of description at least a few times now. Tough to compare the two in my opinion as this snowstorm was a lot of heavy wet snow that caked onto trees that had leaves still on them. That alone adds substaintial load and stress to trees and power lines, and they will just give in.

Obviously there was little to no structural damage caused by the snow itself, and there was no inland flooding. But looking simply at tree damage between the two storms, I see his point.

The longer lasting damage was caused by Irene's flooding in my locality as the small bridge on my road is still out causing a detour on a county road and two businesses have not reopened across from the Pennington Market. However the damage to trees and the power infrastructure was worse for the snowstorm.

There's quite a few bridges up your way which were washed out and have yet to be repaired... I was surprised several times in attempting to go down certain roads the day after the snowstorm to find that my path was blocked not by trees or wires, but by a missing or damaged bridge.
