Superstorm93
Anyone been paying attention to the Cancun surface obs? Some west winds. Light, but they are there. Rumor is that the NHC is considering an upgrade based on those since Recon has been having trouble.

Bryan Wood
A mouse told me they took off, returned to base and took off again about 20 Minutes ago. Someone forgot to stop at 7-Eleven and pick up some Slim Jims and Slurpees before the flight. As far as the path of this thing, I can see scenarios where any part of the Texas coast could be hit. At least Storm Surge shouldn't be a major issue.

usedtobe
Not much to add. The models forecasts certainly don't show much shear. Given the satellite representation and the light westerlies over yucatan, I'd be surprised if the system isn't upgraded this afternoon to either a depression or storm. The forecast track towards TX would be a good thing as the rain sure would help and this does not look like the kind of system that is likely to ramp up to more than a strong TS or weak hurricane. Steve, You did get me to post in a tropical thread though I have little to add.

VAwxman
Storm2k is fairly informative and very professional. If anything, the tropical threads on this board are full of "one liners" and useless crap. Unless NHC folks actually post there themselves, then no, posting about what they are thinking of doing is not informative nor professional because no one knows. Maybe they will upgrade. Maybe they won't.

Ed Lizard
Just found out I'm going to be flying into this tomorrow. I'll never insult your heat wave threads again. Flying into a possible storm in an almost 40 year old Orion, I salute you. Even the Navy is retiring its Orions for 737 based P-8 Poseidons. CUmet
Unsubstantiated rumors aside, I would be absolutely shocked if this wasn't upgraded at 5pm. I would guess that this is somewhat stronger than just a minimal TS as well.

Ed Lizard
There used to be an Air Force woman who was attached to the 53rd WRS but was not aircrew who posted at Storm2K, so it is possible some news about the status of the plane might be available via S2K. Just as I type, finally an HDOB...
LithiaWx
Just found out I'm going to be flying into this tomorrow. Very Awesome! My grandfather has flown into a few when he was in the Air Force stationed at Kessler. I have always wanted to do it but I doubt I'll ever get a chance. Congrats and Good Luck!
