Surprised the temps. for the Blizzard of 1978 were warmer upstate given the highly anomalous upper air pattern, but that storm was much more efficient in bringing in maritime air.

Fairly mild all the way around the system. In Ft. Kent, where only 2" fell, temp got into the mid 20s on 2/7/78, which is almost 10F above the norm.

We were also on the east edge of that 1/85 arctic blast. My low for that month, -23, ranks 9th coldest among the 10 Januarys I lived there, and looks tepid compared to -30 in VA and -34 in NC (or even -19 in SC.) My high for that month was just 22, though, with only one other day reaching 20, so it never got mild, either.

That 8" likely the storm total for the 2-day event.
