CapturedNature
BAF hit 99...1 degree away from the triple digit trifecta CEF maxed out at 97 between hours. Wondering if it makes a run at 90 on Sunday ? What a wide range of temperatures here yesterday! I'm only about 25 miles away and 600' up, but we only maxed out at 89. We had clouds all morning and it stayed in the 70s until around noon.
Collinsville
This morning at about 4:50 I hear a distant rumble of thunder. Looked out the window to see if I could gauge what direction the storm was but there was nothing more so I laid back down. Just at that time I hear my cat moaning outside (she's scared to death of thunderstorms). Looking back out the window I don't see the cat so I pull up the window screen sticking my head out to see if the cat is below sitting at the door. Cat not there, after a few seconds I look back to the west for lightning and just at that moment, explosion/flash/ka-boom right in my face with my head still out the window! Probably a once in a lifetime extremely close lightning while 100% not expecting it. Couldn't have been more than 50 feet away. Clock said 4:53 Honestly one of the my top weather highlights of all time! Cat still hasn't come back yet though

The dew point drop just reached here in the last hour with a 5F drop to 64. All areas north of here are in the 50's across NY and northern NE. Temp. is 72 under ovc skies. 83 muggy delicious

Baroclinic Zone
bugs are obnoxious outside. Tried to do some yard work but was breathing them in constantly and they were getting in my eyes. Suns peeking out now. Last day of the heat/humidity for a few days.

wxeyeNH
Down here in Baltimore too from NH. Yesterday seemed oddly more comfortable. Big differance from 105/75 and 102/71. You get use to the heat quick. I really notice it at night though when at 10pm it is still 90F. Just not use to opening the door to go out and feeling a blast of heat in the blackness. Finally beginning to dry out here TD down to 60 temp of 72 and a nice little breeze every now and then really makes a difference.
ROOSTA
Just returned from vacation in Europe. Realize this is a bit OT but just a little a story. Unfortunately had to cut vaca in half. Man, talk about a fish-out -of-water. Spain and France where great. I was planning on spending majority of vacation in Ukraine and here the fun begins. The country just newly established as a free state is not ready for the 21st Century. For three days I went without money, a "total disata" three credit cards, two debit cards and no bank would despense money, nor would any plastic I had in hand worked. The cultural difference, language barrier, corruption and my lack of homework almost literally killed me...three days no food, shacked up in a broom closet. Chaulk one up to live and learn. Good to be back in the US of A...never again will I complain about dispartities of the have and have-not. Heard it was hot here....

powderfreak
No I'm saying I want like a fall noreaster almost. I'm kinda sick of the heat aren't you? I could go for some bands of rain with H85s of +6C falling to +2C and winds NW 20G35 blowing leaves all over the place.
Logan11
That was brave of you to go into the former Soviet Union. In all of the EU countries I have no probs going to a cash machine (atm) and it's the best way to get cash now with very little fee. I also had no probs in Hungary, Slovenia and the Czech Republic last year. I guess you really need to bring cash when in remoter areas like the Ukraine. Maybe old fashioned American Express travelers checks (cue Karl Malden. ? Like we used to do back in the 70s..... I'm glad it was good in Spain. I'm toying with the idea of going to southern/western Spain in Nov. ..maybe over to Morocco for a day if things aren't unstable then. Fares drop off real good after Nov. 1...but we'll see if I have the $. Just returned from vacation in Europe. Realize this is a bit OT but just a little a story. One call and they'll deliver cash to any point on earth. I once had a problem and a new card was waiting when I checked into the hotel. First class service. You missed the hottest day in 85 years. OT but I was in Romania 16 years ago.....parts of Eastern Europe at that time (and sounds like still now) were pretty backward by our standards. Logan11
No probs last year in the former Warsaw Pact countries of Hungary, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic in particular has wi-fi all over etc.... I know people from Bulgaria and I think they are pretty up to speed also at least in the cities and along the Black Sea resort areas. I dunno about Romania today..that would be an interesting trip.... Get an American Express Card. One call and they'll deliver cash to any point on earth. Typhoon Tip
Stick a fork in this thread. Torch is over. Underperformed for me. Only one 90F+ day during the "torch" There may be a need for a new one after a 2-3day relaxation - we'll see. But, the background pattern has not changed and we run risk of heights running up our wazoos again. NCEP is biting on that, actually, and the UKMET is at odds with the Euro showing north side of 594dm heights parked on the MA with 588dm contour N of BUF-BOS. This modeling behavior is similar to what lead this last heat interval when it was also in early stages of detection. Cycles were either neutral or above average ...eventually settling on above average. Imo, it is less a concern as to whether the heights end up above normal by next weekend, and more whether the lower tropospheric temperatures are in phase when it does. That said, I wouldn't suggest +24C at 850mb should be expected all that often - ha.
