euro suggests we do this all over again late next week.

Yep! good post - wanted to mention this myself .. .One thing though, the NAO is showing a little crack and slippage... Hmm, it's tough because we did all this with near neutral fielding in that regard; next week it's slightly negative, but I'm not sure if this is within tolerance and the wavelengths may not respond. I am hedging on that side and thinking like this time, the ECM may be onto it again.

Btw, the Euro was pretty outstanding on this heat once D4 lead arrived. Let's see what the model looks like on Sunday.

This reminds me of the big heat spike back in July 1977 (almost to the day!)-- too bad we dont have a weak el nino or we could get really excited for the winter ;) It's interesting because last summer was a lot like 1966 (once again, almost to the day!) and we saw how the two winters performed lol.

JFK was at 103 and may fall one degree short of the all time record of 104 from July 4, 1966. Who knows, they may still get there today, tomorrow or with the next heat surge lol.

NYC's high was 104 so far and LGA is at its high of 103 right now

My station peak high and all time high for my weather station was 104.9 set about an hour ago.

And then there is EWR and the 108 which may yet go higher still lol.

The meso-beta scaled pocket of drier air is advecting through. ALB is already back up to 55 after crashing all the way to 50 earlier. FIT is currently 50 - suspect the core is passing through southern VT/NH and down to the MA Pike, now... Noting DPs not responding to this lucky alleviation region S of the Pike; much of CT still in the mid 60s with 101+ abounding. I wonder if we get a theta-e rise again in the night. One last day of torridity for tomorrow.

Amazing day of pervasive triple digit heat underway for the next hour...

I can't believe how well the Euro nailed this almost a week out. It wasn't just pegging MU90s...it had widespread 100-105F. MOS didn't even catch on fully until last night.

yeah a very good showing by the euro this go around. i thought it might back down a bit in the last run or two leading up to it but it never relented. also another bad showing by MAV...the gfs just can't catch a break. LOL.
