nzucker
That's a sweet package Nate. That is like 36k nothing included for some other job. You';ll take home a ton of that money. Its up to you if you think you want to handle that type of social life which is isolated....but you have no idea how the work environment is with meeting people. So that can change things. You can be in a rural area, but also be in a work environment that has a lot of other people too. You'll have to gauge that if you get an offer. Its a situation you can only gauge and nobody else. But in terms of money, that is pretty good for a starting job. You are getting all your living expenses paid for plus 20k. Yeah, I have to tell the headmaster in 2 days, so I am kind of freaking out. It is just a rough decision to make at 23, I've never been faced with something this intense before. I am also way too burnt out to think clearly because it took me almost 5 hours to get home with I-91 moving at the pace of a carriage trail. I did this trip and interview all in one day, so I am definitely feeling overwhelmed. It's a pretty good offer for sure...the students are highly special-needs but very intelligent and kind, the campus is gorgeous, and it's not bad money considering they include everything. If I wanted to get a job at a public school, I would need to get my certification first, which is going to be nearly 2 years and probably 20k. So this is a nice starting position, certainly a step up from subbing for 75 bucks a day and living at home in Dobbs. Again, I am leaning towards taking it but a lot to consider. ORH_wxman
Where is the 101.5" from? Is that anywhere near Rindge? It looks as if the higher amounts clustered over the Monadnocks? Elevation dominance there? The 101.5" is from Winchendon, MA..it borders Rindge to the SW. Here is a map of the towns:
nzucker
Holy crap...the higher spots on campus probably got over 100" that winter since they're a bit northeast anyway. Everyone there asked me if I liked snow, I guess I know what they are talking about.
nzucker
Also, Will, what do you think is the best route from Dobbs Ferry to Rindge? I tried both 287-->684-->84-->90-->190 through Fitchburg and on the way back local roads-->91-->95-->287, and they both sucked. Maybe 91 to the Merritt? Rindge isn't easy to get to...but I think 684 to 84 to 91 to Rt 2 then back rds to Rindge is probably your fastest route. I think you can only figure it out by trial and error, but if you held a gun to my head, I think that might be the fastest. And with regards to your other post...I wasn't kidding about the snow there. I'm not sure you actually realized where you were geographically since you were probably so focused on the job interview itself. But that spot is absolutely insane for snow. Every time I mention "N ORH hills and Monadnocks", that spot is literally one of the most favorable in that classification. Rindge is north of me (obvious by the state and then more specific by the map) but at higher elevation by several hundred feet. They are an awesome spot. Those people had good reason to ask you if you like snow. It takes forever to melt there and they get a lot of it before it starts to melt. I envy Rindge from a snow standpoint where I am. Do what is right for you. Social life up there will obviously be limited, but you can always leave after a year if you want, just remember that. You are young. Sometimes the experience is worth the social sacrifice when you are at that age....because you can back out at any time. Plus you never know how your peers might be...they might be cool too. You always have us just to your south too...we can get you drunk at many Fitchburg bars...me and Typhoon_Tip. (who isn't far from FIT) But in the end, you have to gauge your own preferences. Experience is certainly worth a lot, but you also do not want to be miserable.

weathafella
You do mention this a lot. So I guess that means I"m taking it. LOL Good luck Nate. If I can offer any advice in life about these things, go with your gut. If you have major anxiety about taking it, your entire psyche is telling you something and be careful. But if the only anxiety is change but it's what you want to do, go for it. You'll at the very least gain great experience to build on and as Will said, you'll see plenty of snow...PLENTY! ski MRG
60/57, a beautiful morning that looks to be followed by atruly spectacular day. Once again today's highs look to stay in the mid 70's which is perfect summer weather, no heat to deal with. P.S. Nate, good luck, remember jobs are tough to come by these days and a bird in hand.... Oh, don't forget to see "Deliverance", it'll be a good introduction to the ways of your new neighbors.
HIPPYVALLEY
Yes, everything would be included so it's worth over 30k. It's not a bad package...good apartments, all meals provided, all electricity/Internet taken care of. I would take a lot of the 20k home, which is a nice thought. And it's a pretty cool place to work overall. I will probably try to get it. Remember, nothing is forever and it would be your choice to leave after a year if you didn't like it and you would have it on your resume. Friends of mine bought the Fitzwilliam Inn 2 years ago. That's a nice place to go have dinner or a drink and they are pretty hip folks. Live music on weekends. Good luck with whatever you decide! Tropopause_Fold
srefs continue to bring the wed/thur wave right over SNE. strange to see such a huge difference. nam seems to have come north a bit but between the gefs/srefs and everything else...there's a huge bust potential in there. CoastalWx
91 at BOS. Heatwave. I think Jerry talked about this yesterday. Nice call. This shows you how below normal heights just aren't always a good call on temps (especially in the warm season)...even if substantially so. You have to look at boundary layer things like temp and wind direction.

Once we achieved Sunday, I thought the only day in question was yesterday due to dews being higher which would require more energy to heat. Today was easy with the launching pad we started out with. And remember, it was 89 at BOS Saturday so this was very close to a 4 day heatwave. Reasonable td's today so the feels is a nice warm summer day. ski MRG
74/59, breezy, a high of 79 (74 @ 2k). A beautiful day. I notice the hue of the leaves has changed from the bright spring green to a deeper leathery green. This evening's sunlight has that golden quality reserved for August and September. A sure sign the days are now easily marked. Fantastic weather, 70's and low DPs will be with us for a while or at least will be occuring with greater and greater frequency. monadnocks
Nate, Remember that there's no sales or income tax in New Hampshire either. This late afternoon photo is from our yard this year on March 18th. Note measurement is in mm, not inches! OKpowdah
I feel like this has been a pretty classic summer for New England, which is nice. Periodic heat waves, rounds of severe weather ... a bit more active than normal... and some really comfortable days too. Gotta love it. Got a good vibe about autumn and winter (i.e. also "classic" New England )

Logan11
As Lloyd Lindsay Young used to say on WOR channel 9 in NYC (Secausus, NJ ) ..."There's no business like snow business" No other type of weather compares IMO. A nice comfy 57 here now in the middle of the night. The 0z models seem more inclined to keep the bulk of tomorrow nights MCC to my west/south which is fine by me. I really don't care about rainfall at this point in the season - just means more mowing. I can water my small garden. Bring on frost in maybe six weeks. wow, 10 whole minutes and it's back to snow talk...
Snow Bow
wow, 10 whole minutes and it's back to snow talk... Yeah good call. I was starting to get withdrawals. Thanks to ginx for posting those epic pics. Nice to see the snowblower again. And that chain link fence completely covered. Just awesome. 57 degrees right now just absolutely beautiful, definitely getting close to sweatshirt weather you can just feel it in the air. First frost countdown within arms reach now pete. You first then me not to far behind you. Don't get me wrong tip, I know it doesn't make much difference to you what I think but I really enjoy your posts, so much info and entertaining but not sure what's up lately. I thought you loved snow? I know winter talk has its place and time but for most of us that's what sparked the interest in weather and is what keeps us interested. Its no wonder why we can't go long before whipping out pics of kevins snowbanks, burly men waist deep in alaskan mountain top snow, or roof high drifts on cape cod after an amazing blizzard! ski MRG
OT: Thought some might get a kick out of this Looks good Jay, keep up the good work. A few tips: Perhaps scar your face up a little and grimace in your pictures, you look too nice for a linesman. The Bills would be a better team to put down as favorite. Also, Bruce Springsteen is so 80's, pick some scary named death metal band instead. You can still listen to the oldies in your room at night.
