Could probably live in Keene and commute. Keene is a cool town.

Yeah it is, it reminds me of Amherst. (UMass). Lots of little stores and restaurants.

Dave, that finale is intense. You can get a decent view from the top of the hill in my neighborhood. I remember mistaking it for a thunderstorm many times growing up. Almost back in Massachusetts, we drove 1,000 miles yesterday from Custer, Mt to the Dells, Wi. Probably stopping in New York for the night. Met some really interesting people along the way.

Maxed out at 88 at CEF and 89.4 at the house. Going out for a few cold ones now at On the Border with the wife and daughter. They can do the eating whilst I pound a few  Can't go downtown as the Staties have a roadblock tonight near the HOF. ;)

It's very rural. Not a bad town but there isn't much to do outside of exploring the outdoors. Hiking, biking, kayaking. Keene is a decent little city about half an hour away.

That's fine...If I receive the job, I'll be very involved in the school community living on campus and working with special-needs students. I love hiking...have done Washington and Jefferson many times, as well as a bunch of the Adirondacks like Marcy, Algonquin, Saddleback, Basin, Blue Mtn, etc...I enjoy being in the outdoors as much as possible, went to college at Middlebury VT and would love to return to New England for the wonderful natural though I do love NYC and have potential romantic aspirations down this way, so it's going to be a tough move in some ways.

91 for the high here.

Summer perfection.

Today was hot, hit 90.2F, and it's still 79.7/65 with clear skies. I'm getting sick of the heat. Really can't wait for autumn, this July has been too much.

Congrats, doing what?

It's a full-time job as a Spanish teacher at a boarding school for special needs/exceptional learners. The salary isn't great at only 20k/year, but it does include an on-campus apartment with all the amenities as well as all of my meals and some activities. I had the first interview by phone, and the headmaster invited me up for a final interview and look around. I'll be driving to Rindge on Monday for it. I really want the job as I was a Spanish/French major at Middlebury, have a bunch of education courses under my belt, and worked as a substitute teacher at a public school all last year. I really hope I can pull this off and move back to New England with a cool job.

I bet you will like it. Did you ever run into a Gina Egan at Middlebury?

I have a final interview for a job in Rindge, NH...any thoughts on the area?

They get absolutely smoked by heavy snow. You'll experience snow pack on a regular basis like you haven't before. It would put Middlebury VT in the valley to shame. Its located just north of the MA/NH border and most of the town is above 1100 feet elevation...and the little downtown area is actually up near 1300 feet. On the east slopes of the ORH hills/Monadnocks. They probably average 80-82" per year there.

78.5F with comfortable dews

84 might be a stretch

Just curious...does Hubbardston have an average elevation of 1000'+?...Because the temps often bust low according to your obs but is it due to the combination of vegetation/ higher elevation for your house compared to the rest of town? (Obviously not today, as it wasn't 80 at your house, and 87 across towns, but it might make a difference for the days where you report they bust by 2-3F.)

68/61 now at 12:20am. High of 86 here today.

That's really cool Zuck. My wife works at a similar school, she teaches art to 5th-9th grade level kids with special needs/behavioral problems. It's an extremely difficult and demanding job considering the low wage. Don't downplay that part ...it isn't for everyone. She was physically attacked 6 times last year by students. Not sure if that is the type of environment you will be in... it's learning disabilities rather than behavior? Still, not easy.

If you did do that..we'll probably be neighbors because we're moving to New Ipswich/Temple NH by 2013.

I would think most of the town is around 1000-1100 feet. One side is probably 900 or so

Temple is another beautiful area too. I could see why someone would want to move there. I have a friend who lives on fish rd and he regularly reports a few inches of snow in october not to mention all the times we change to rain in the Merrimack valley he's ripping wet snow. Think they're about 1400 feet with a nice view of Temple mountain in their backyard.

Good for you for wanting to get out of Bedford. Too many nouveau riche type people out there for me. Im sure you don't fall into that category though.

lol....Bedford is no different than Bow...very high property taxes and huge class separation. It's just too expensive a town, without kids to put through school yet, otherwise there are advantages.

Yeah we're looking at a place right on the New Ipswich/Temple line. It's 10 acres ranging from 1350' to 1500'+ in the Wapack range

Some argue it's fall. To me, it's high summer. Will we achieve 100+ again this year? Probably not. Let's face it, after Boston experienced its hottest day in 85 years, it's rasonable to assume it's not going to be that hot again this summer. But the warm summer days with full activity of growth continues. It is high summer. Maybe even under a trof but on the ground we're above normal again today, yesterday, tomorrow, and Tuesday. I think week 1 of August will verify AOA normal. Heckuva way to run an autumn!

I meant reputable sources that can be trusted without bias. ;)

LOL.!!

Gdammit! I slept through another month! Here I thought it was 7/31...

Point well taken but the first 25% of August doesn't look like an inferno.

81 degrees at 1012 in the morning, looks like another cold day in Gods Country.

75/63 presently, just another perfect day on the East Slope, warm but no hint of searing, ugly heat.

Jerry, the truth and common sense is not allowed :P First week of August will clearly be above normal, not historical which seems the only way some view above normal heat, yet still above normal. Middle to end of August could very well be an oven, and as you well know September can bake especially with lower dews and downsloping winds.

Garden variety summer weather, sure the heat may smolder for a while but soon the embers will be extinguished completely. August 1st marks the first day of a new ski fitness program. The beginning of the end of off-season. I'll enjoy the mild weather with an eye to the gathering Winter storm on the distant horizon.
