Mr Torchey
Yep, missed out on the last storm down here by the water, but this one coming looks good! Typhoon Tip
Tip and Kevin will totally disagree but ten days ago I said the recurving typhoon would change the weather pattern and there would be a severe outbreak, but just coincidence I guess. Correct on both assertions... CDC doesn't even calculate the PNA correlation against any other index going for JJA for a reason- it's not correlating. Seriously - How is recurving typhoon half way around the world going to mean anything locally if the PNA can't even contribute? Aside from the fact, that correlation is September and October, and weakly so in the winter. Did you actually read the papers. I don't know where to begin with you and this subject. Not sure why you are not getting it. oh well -

High temperature was only 76.1F yesterday which allowed the soil to absorb some of the water. Ginx snewx
The recurving typhoon is always a classic argument I am not alone ask AMPSU, Adam Moyer about it. The many many papers have different results. It works, did this time, did in June and did multiple times last winter. My opinion only but I will assert I was right. nzucker
I'll do that... Everything else is great though. My zukes are even bigger than yours if you believe that. Cukes keep growing and growing with the bees around. I also have a green pepper that I posted in there tha'ts about 2 inches long now I think the small pots you used is really hurting in the drought; the plants are not getting enough calcium, and their water content is varying excessively since they are either parched or heavily watered. Tomatoes can usually tolerate a lot of heat, as long as you water them, so I think you might want to try to remedy the problem. I'd suggest some kelp to increase micronutrient content in the soil...you also might want to try to stick them in the ground or buy a bigger pot. I'm using 10-12 gallon pots for my tomatoes, and it's barely big enough. Obviously it's not as much of a problem in a wetter summer, but this time the container size might be a real difficulty. If you can't change the set-up, make sure there's a thick layer of mulch on top to regulate water intake/release. All of your other stuff looked amazing in the last set of pictures. I have a lot of blossoms on my melons, but no fruits yet. The deer have been chewing the ends off, which is not exactly productive. Far and away, this has been the worst summer for animal invasions as I've had deer strip a pot of beans bare, rabbits trying to knock tomatoes off the Lemon Boy plants, and an absolute devastation of a squash patch by some underground monster, probably a mole. I have potted cucumbers that are just doing OK; I picked one of them early, and the Early Fortune cucumber was a bit sour for my taste. I'm going to let them develop more. I also have a 2nd, more promising batch of cucumbers, planted in a few containers surrounding a large wooden ladder, which I am using as a trellis. These plants have humongous leaves and are rapidly setting flowers. What's doing best for me are my eggplant, corn, and zucchinis. I got a Japanese eggplant yesterday, have a massive Black Beauty to harvest in 3-4 days which is already standard supermarket size, have already harvested 2 ears corn with a half dozen coming, and have three more zucchinis on the vines after picking the monster. I just hope it's not too woody given the size of this thing. I also have a tremendous supply of Pineapple Sage, Cinnamon Basil, common Basil, Oregano, Mint, and common Sage. Starting to get the chili peppers and heirloom Brandywine tomatoes as well. Overall the best year I have had, so far.

Sorry, we just started about the garden when we were discussing the lack of rainfall...I know this isn't really the appropriate thread but it was an obvious segue. If the mods need to move our comments, that's fine. My apologies... -TSRA 71.6/71 S@7mph 0.18" rainfall Where did the shift to the south wind come from? Is that from a boundary associated with these storms or what? I thought we were supposed to have light N/NNW winds.

HarveyLeonardFan
As is often the case this time of year the line totally fell apart as it approached this area and I had well below a tenth of an inch of rain with a lightning bolt or two. Narragansett Bay is death to thunderstorms and if Wiz lived here he'd lose his passion for severe weather. The water today was great. The warmest it's been all summer, but still I don't believe it's 70 yet. In fact, in my opinion water temps are running a bit below normal, because usually by this time water temps have spiked into the low 70s on select days in Newport and this hasn't occurred so far. Trof associated with teleconnections from the recurving typhoon? Perfectly reasonable. But it is likely transient vs a bona fide pattern changer and I don't think the overall regime is not substantially changed other than shifting around and back and forth pulsing of the mid continental ridge which has been extremely robust this year. When you go out 14 days from now, I suspect we're all above normal though not necessarily mega. Have you really read "10s" of papers? Like 30-40? That's alot!
