Heavy heavy bad luck with the storms today. So I had gone to 6 flags for the day today and I knew there was a good shot at some late pm storms, but nothing like what developed. So about 4:00 we started seeing the storms moving in and we checked my friends phone and there was a severe warning up for Springfield area. At six flags (agawam) we just got some heavy downpours, maybe some gusts into the 20s, and some lightning and thunder. A typical summer thunderstorm. Everyone was joking "tornado" at the park and they were obviously joking. Then we checked the phone again to see if the storm was about to move through and it would dry out, and then we saw there was a tornado warning up. huh.gif Unfortunately, I had not driven out there, and was being picked up by my friends mom. If I was driving I would have left to storm chase haha. So we got a call from friends mom who was just east of Springfield where she supposedly heard unofficial reports of a touchdown. She said there was small hail where she was with some bigger: 1-1.25" and crazy loud thunder and frequent lightning. Most people were pulled over on the road. So eventually she got to pick us up and you could see some of the damage on the way home. On the way home -291 to mass pike east- you could see some uprooted trees and branches down, some moderate damage. Interestingly, you could also see the remnants of where the worst of the hail must have fallen, because there was one maybe half mile stretch where you could still see hail coating the grass and there was heavy fog. And this was maybe an hour to and hour and a half after the storm. So anyway, basically I missed 1.25" hail and intense winds, with where an unofficial funnel cloud report was by about 10 miles. It was pretty cool driving home to see some of the minor, some moderate damage. Also to still see the coating of hail about an hour and half later was pretty cool. We also heard that many towns in the area (esp. Wilbraham) were without power. That was where the worst of the tree damage was. smile.gif

Oh, and unfortunately I didn't get any pics because we were driving 70+ and it was impossible to get a good pic. Also, i am very jealous of his mom who got to drive through basically the worst part of the storm in ludlow/Wilbraham area right when the tornado was reported. sad.gif

Very surprised that the storms held together as well as they did by the time they got down here to the beaches of S RI.... At 4pm - low clouds developed out of nowhere and by 4:15 it was overcast with good southerly breeze causing a mass exodus off the beach. Usually the perfect recipe to kill afternoon thunderstorms but they held together and actually seemed to rejuvenate overhead once they reached the shore around 6:15 or 6:30. Nothing compared to the pictures come out of IJD but a potent little line of storms nonetheless.

Peak wind gust of 37 with a total of .77 rain.
