Powerball
Very dark base overhead. Judging from Cleveland's radar a heavy rain shower may be developing, if not a t'storm, as that what has developed just SW of downtown.

London snowsquall
Local chaser watched the storm explode over London. He said there was a few minutes where it looked like a funnel was trying to develop over the city before it weakened. Close call, eh! Interesting. I wasn't even paying attention I was in the basement. I was jusy happy to see 10 minutes of rain. Only a few lightning strikes and the brief rain. Nothing close to severe in the SW part of the city - must have been elsewhere.

wisconsinwx
Sounds like there's a very good chance that convective activity in Eastern Minnesota/NW Wisconsin will shift SE through the night. Will probably be another miss here, though, cause that's the only thing I know.
cmichweather
Tuesday is looking like another Dakota special. Like LB was saying the globals have been on this event for days and now the sref and nam are getting into their time range it seems like a fairly significant outbreak is possible Tuesday. I'm thinking the central and western parts of the state are under the biggest threat at this point. Nam is already showing some nice long looping soundings with nice 0-6 bulk shear and plenty of CAPE, and the cap does seem breakable. I'd like to see a slightly stronger shortwave at 500 and a bit more digging to induce stronger height falls but as of right now things still look good especially at this time frame
andyhb
Yeah, I'm awaiting the new outlook on that one, things are looking fairly favorable right now, with a lot of things in the right places. Also, Southern Manitoba might get a part of that action, with some nasty looking hodos. In addition, it seems the GFS and NAM are both in agreement over the possibility, with roughly the same elements in place on both models.

on_wx
Does anyone know what kind of winds can topple large steel hydro transmission towers? The first tornado warned storm last night in Lambton County ON collapsed eight of them. Detroit radar is 65 miles from where the towers were destroyed -- this is the best radar shot I can get of it. Nothing too impressive, but obviously it produced a lot of damage.

The EC has a slightly stronger wave aloft than the GFS but takes it farther N with a possible messy convective setup owing to quite a bit of elevated convection early. That said, the potential is certainly there.

London snowsquall
Does anyone know what kind of winds can topple large steel hydro transmission towers? The first tornado warned storm last night in Lambton County ON collapsed eight of them. Detroit radar is 65 miles from where the towers were destroyed -- this is the best radar shot I can get of it. Nothing too impressive, but obviously it produced a lot of damage. An online news article I was just looking at indicated 6 towers damaged or destoyed. It knocked out the power to parts of Sarnia all the way to London. The power outage at home that happened around 730 was actually the reason I was in the basement trying to stay cool when the storm went thru London. No internet so I was blissfully unaware of anything of note approaching the area. I have a weather radio up in the bedroom but I'm not sure if it has battery backup or if there are any batteries in it. It might have gone off but I was in the basement and my wife was on our front porch during the outage, so no one would have heard it. Most people were outside because of the fading daylight and because it was cooler outside than in an un air-conditioned house. Once the power was restored at 930 was the first time I went up to our bedroom and heard the warnings on the radio. Next step -- check that radio for batteries.................
