Quite spectacular that BGM has broken the 20" mark for this event, although it wouldn't be possible without the advantage of elevation and placement downwind of the finger lakes (Cayuga Lake) compared to the Triple Cities portion of the county. I'm always amazed at the difference in accumulations between the Triple Cities and the Airport / NWS here in Maine, like night and day most times.

That is spectacular!! But you're absolutely right about the incredible difference in accumulations between the airport and the valley locations. I'll never forget during the winter of 2008-2009 I measured ~45" at my place in Chenango Forks while BGM exceeded 70" for the season. For those unfamiliar with the local geography, Chenango Forks is only about 4 miles from the airport as the crow flies...but probably 600-700' lower in elevation.

Looks like Onondaga county is taking home the awards for this one, with more to come next week.

On that note, I finally did the math, and including today's measurement, storm total here of 3.6". Yes, I did overshoot yesterday.

Almost 40" of snow! Congratulations! You've overtaken me for most snow measured in a single storm now.

my younger bother at SU asked when is it going to stop.....lol. I told him last year wasn't the norm for LES.

Man, you are quite the snow magnet! You go from epic events in Parish, which is understandable, to a 39+ incher in Liverpool! Any houses for sale in your neighborhood??

Thanks for all the updates, I'm new to Americanwx boards, but I wanted to echo the point about the difference in a couple miles. Sounds like Genoa, Lansing, Cortland, and Dryden all got decent snowfall out of this event, but Ithaca and the suburbs north of ITH got so little we can still see the blades of grass. Amazing.

LOL! My neighbors fully put the blame on the two recent (one last year) 4 day LES blitz's squarely on my shoulders! My kids think I can make it snow!:snowman:

We have a live webcam if you ever want to check it out:

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/bgm/webcam/

Thanks for that! Sure sucks about the radar....I'm sure you guys are catching unwarrented flack for that.

SU hill (about 10 minutes ago) had 1/8 mi. vis.....they (we) got plastered last night here on the hill.....watched it all night (along with the SU/Mich. St. game) hang south, thinking it was NOT going to come to L'pool.....at Midnight....had very little on the cars....I go to bed and 7-8" ! Must have fallen rather hard for a couple hours, but I missed it!;) I guess I missed sleep more! :)

first of all, congrats on all the snow to everyone who got some, i feel like we are seeing that everyday for you lake effect folks.

did any of you guys hear about the lake effect that hit london ontario?

there is a thread in the Central forum.

pretty incredible, i think its the worst snowfall they have ever had in their city's history and they have been pretty much shutdown for days, with more snow still falling.

hopefully those who havent seen any significant snow will get theirs soon.

over here, environment canada still trying to clean up the mess that is one foot falling on montreal, instead of 1-2 inches.

I have another noobie question. Is the Glens Falls area considered part of the Adirondacks when it comes to forecast's?I know some people start around Warrensburg, but then again some people think it starts around Saratoga.

I say no. Its in the Upper Hudson Valley.

While the Adirondack Park does extend south to north of Glens Falls (as well as a part of NW Saratoga County) the Adirondacks refer to the more mountainous area to the North thru West of GFL.

12z GFS certainly says ADK high peaks get ready....path of surface low- just inland of Long Island and then moving through Conn. and into VT strongly favors the ADK. Kinda looks like a snow to mix as WAA overspreads the region then back to snow as low moves east of the region and tightens. Lets see what the Euro comes up with tomorrow as we get into it's 4 day dead-eye range.

Also- looking at the NAM for support it sure seems like will it holds cyclogenisis off until the system is east enough to cut at least east off the app spine- a similar track to the GFS.

I'm still putting my eggs in the low tracking into the Buffalo region but this is an interesting development nonetheless.

I consider the Lake George region on the border of the ADK region, there are times where its raining in GFL and we are all snow and other times where we are both raining and its snowing from Chestertown NW.
