Upstate NY / North Country Winter 2010 Thread 1

Recommended Posts

Ec no longer has us getting up to 42F, and has the rain changing back to snow tonight. We'll see what happens. Looks to be a mess on the roads today

yes it will be interesting to see if any appreciable snow falls behind the storm, with the colder temps and winds, could be some treacherous conditions by tomorrow afternoon/evening if any heaveier flurries/squalls popup, the setup is decent.

It's last winter all over again. What a wild weather year 2010 has been. The end of the world must be at hand. The natural order of things has been disrupted

i just saw that Don S posted for the first time

'AO forecast to plunge'

ive been waiting for him to post something

i wont be opening that thread for a while :axe:

Not to dismiss the dismay of many on the board of lack of snow....I feel for you, trust me, but here around the lakes, we have other "worries" I'm afraid. I just spent all morning clearing my roof from the 45" of the now well compacted/saturated LES dump. With more rain this afternoon...temps to plunge late tonight/early tomorrow moring, then another long duration LES event, and not seeing folks in the area clearing off their roof, we are at risk of some weaker structures failing, if indeed we get the rain this afternoon, and a similar fall of snow as last week in select areas. Then we will be approaching X-mas, and people will turn their attention to "last minute Christmas prep." If we were to see some synoptic system brewing around that time (as hinted by a few longer range progs) there would certainly be reason for larger scale concerns.

The stuff I just shoveled off is obnoxiously dense...and deceivingly so, which only adds, IMO, to the cavalier attention given to the near future.

12z euro looks tasty. MECS from hours 156-186 storm comes right up the coast.. may screw far eastern new england but everywhere else game on! :snowman:

Hopefully we can get in on the snow action too!

Cold air is holding its ground up here. Sitting right on freezing with ice pellets and freezing rain continuing to fall.

one the 12z verbatim you definitely would. low tracks just west of boston then northwest through northeastern VT into quebec with decent precip up your way. I could see this thing ending up much further west than the euro has it depending on when the phase takes place. chances are it ends up smoking dc north through central and western ny while we get rain here.
