Simple answer to the 100 degree bickering. Switch to metrics. Guarantee there would be no care over whether it hit 37.2 or 37.8. People here are just neurotic over achieving a clean even number on a scale that's consumed by only the non scientific American world.

MN looks delicious today. hopefully we get a taste of those lower dp's this afternoon or at least before my 7pm softball game. No official heatwave in MKE unless we can pop a 90 tomorrow. Glad we're probably through with this kind of duration hell for the summer and back to just in and out bouts of heat.

CLE still at 81. Dew points a little lower though than just to the west, sitting at 71, so we should sneak into the upper 70s tonight not that it makes a difference here in the air conditioning. Power grid already having trouble handling the heat, had a large outage in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland on Monday, and they just shut my grid off for the last hour or so :arrowhead:

Cleveland Lakefront BKL only had a low of 82 last night. Unreal. I only have the CLE data back to the 40s, but a high of 99 at CLE coupled with last nights 78 degree low would make today the hottest day in Cleveland on record based on average temperature.

Hmm, so I take it when we hit our all time record of 104 it was a drier heat and we cooled to more reasonable levels at night?

Anyways, CLE hit 87 for the 10am ob. Using the 10/10 rule we get a high of 97, but we live on the western edge of our time zone or close to it, so we can probably add 11 or 12 degrees to our 10am temp assuming we stay sunny most or all of the day. So 98 still seems like a good guess, 99 possible. Will be interesting to see if Burke can hit 100 today, may be possible if the winds don't veer too much to the west.

The record of 104 in 1988 was coupled with a low of 63, so while being the hottest temp ever in Cleveland, it doesn't even rank in the top 50 hottest days on record.

June 25, 1952 had a 99/77 for hottest day in Cleveland. We'd need a 98 to tie, and 99 to break record for hottest day ever. Of course, that assumes we don't dip to 77 by the 1 am ob.

90 at ORD as of 10AM.

"Cold" front just passed RFD and the storm out by DBQ and it's associated outflow/cloud cover is still a few hours off, so we should make it to at least noon with peak heating potential...which would suggest a high of at least 95.

Northerly Island already has 93/75/104, so a run into the upper 90's still looks quite possible..

Unless we see a storm pop up in the evening or something along those lines, with dew points hovering in the mid 70s and a nice southwesterly breeze temps should stay above 77 through 1am. We did it last night and we "only" topped out at 94 yesterday. CLE is already 90/76/102 at 11am.

90/feels like 109 right now at the Region of Waterloo Int'l Airport

Environment Canada has just issued a rare 'weather warning' for half the province to highlight the extreme temperatures and humidex values today.

As of 11 am, it's 93 at Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and 94 in downtown Toronto at the University of Toronto (St. George Campus/Trinity College). It is forecast to get up to 100 today in Toronto.

The hottest day in Toronto's history was back in July 1936 where it hit 105 for three straight days (8th, 9th and 10th). The last time it got to 100 was August 8th, 2001 at YYZ and September 2nd, 1953 at the downtown station.

The record temp in Kitchener is 97.7

The weather station is broken in town so it's been giving unrealistic readings as of late. It's been recording 37 or 38 degrees every day, so I'm hoping today it'll say 40 or higher, just because. It even says the humidex is in the 50s right now.

Date: July 21, 2011 Time: 11:30 am

Temperature (current): 35.9 °C

Temperature (24 hour max/min): 37.4 °C /24.8 °C

Humidex: 52.5

Detroit folks, what is the record for hottest day there? I'm talking average temp as seen on the f6, high plus low divided by 2. It seems like today might give that record a run for its money.

Detroit could give the record high mean temp a run for the money. To tie it theyd need a high of 102-103, to break it theyd need a high of 104 or higher. This is all provided the temp does not sink below 79F (this mornings low) before 1159pm tonight.

Record is 91, and we have had 89F+ a total of 8 times

Highest mean temps officially at Detroit

91F - Aug 6, 1918

90F - July 10, 1936

90F - July 18, 1942

89F - July 1, 1931

89F - July 9, 1936

89F - July 11, 1936

89F - July 17, 1931

89F - Aug 1, 2006

Whats the website for the downtown site?

http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/trends_table/pages/xto_imperial_e.html

It has dropped two degrees to 92 as it looks like a "weak cold" front is passing by and plus it's cloudy outside. Once the "front" passes by, the winds are forecast to be even stronger and will come from the W or WNW, which could boost the downtown temperatures because of the downsloping effect (land breeze). The downtown station is at a lower elevation compared to Pearson Airport.
