What do you think happens 8/1 and beyond?

Alex, I think we see upper ridge retrograde westward into the Rockies/Plains with a trough dipping into the Northeast in the means. I still expect some hot days the first couple weeks of August but by and large, many more cool air intrusions in the NWLY flow aloft. Actually 2008 continues to be a pretty good analog for this summer. Similar timing for the current heat wave although nowhere near the magnitude of what we're seeing. With that said, we should follow the general progression of 2008 with cooling in the first half of August, then warming back up again.

A sea breeze just developed in the last 5 minutes and I am down to 98 degrees here in Long Beach.

What was your high? We also have overcast skies so that may be it for the heat-- this is like the last day of the super heat wave last July when we barely made it to 100 before the backdoor front made it through lol.

I was able to make it to 101 just before the sea breeze developed.arrowheadsmiley.png

It'll be interesting to see but that ridge NE of HI and a persistent trough into the WC, coupled with increasingly drier conditions expanding into our area may signal a warmer august.

In the summer I'm glad I live in this part of Long Island-- it's so hard to get it over 100 in Suffolk County :(

Wow, another big heat surge since the sun came out-- now approaching 102 here.

a record high temperature of 102 degrees was set at Kennedy NY today.
