If LGA had been around in 1936 I wonder how hot they would have been when NYC hit 106 (come to think of it, JFK too.)

That day (July 4, 1966-- what a firecracker of a fourth lol) when LGA hit 107, JFK was 104 and NYC was "only" 103. I dont know what the high at EWR was.

I doubt they would have been as hot as NYC as the built environment was much smaller in 1936 than today (still huge, but I do believe the suburban sprawl is a big reason we radiate less and less).

I would guess that LGA/EWR only started becoming heat sinks into the 1970s and onwards.

I see that in the 6 hourlies, but is it certain that it happened today? The lowest individual ob in that timeframe was at 22:51 yesterday.

You're right, its not certain. Though I was going for the lowest it got overnight, not the lowest on this calender day (the "public" low not the "official" low).

What was the highest they got to last summer, Ray?

I got their Davis this winter so I'm not sure, though the TTN ASOS (which is less than 2 miles away and usually runs very close) was 104. Of course, the dewpoint last year was 15 degrees lower. :arrowhead:

so... does anyone know if Newark essentially holds the all time record pretty much for the whole tri-state region as well?? Are we basically looking now at the highest ever temperature recording for the NWS NYC area??

Runyon NJ (Middlesex County) hit 110 in 1936. EWR will give them a legitimate run for their money today.
