You're just going by the JFK hourly obs lol-- I bet they reached 102 in between hours.

Actually, I'm not. I am going by the observations from Sheepshead Bay on Weatherunderground.com. I use to have a little portable weather station but it broke :(

It's much more urban in western Queens.

I know but it not exactly midtown manhattan here.St Johns Cemetery is about 450 feet from me and I dont live right near any apartment buildings. The area by Alley Pond Park is chilly compared to where I am at.

Yup. Posted that 2 hours ago.

However, after that heat ridge, the pattern looks like it breaks down with blocking returning.

I think August will be normal to below normal overall.

A normal August will feel like fall has arrived after this!

So we may close out July with another round of 100s?

Yea it's definitely no city but still it's pretty dense. I have temps almost 10 degrees colder often at night compared to LGA, especially in winter.

so... does anyone know if Newark essentially holds the all time record pretty much for the whole tr-state region as well?? Are we basically looking now at the highest ever temperature recording for the NWS NYC area??

LGA hit 107 in 1966.

Congrats. 30 inches from the Boxing day blizzard and now hitting 105.

This is almost as exciting as the blizzards last winter ;)

Winter 2009-10: record breaking February

Summer 2010 : record breaking over all, with megaheatwave in early July

Winter 2010-11: record breaking snowcover and Dec 25-Jan 27 period

Summer 2011: megatorch followed by another megatorch of 100+?

Winter 2011-12: I wonder what Ma Nature has in store for us next ;)

I dont know about that, we have had a long stretch of above normal temps the past few months, there is no reason to think that trend wont continue

Winter is really fascinating. I am so happy that weather is my favorite hobby . It is the best out there.

If we get a weak La Nina, we might be in business.

If LGA had been around in 1936 I wonder how hot they would have been when NYC hit 106 (come to think of it, JFK too.)

That day (July 4, 1966-- what a firecracker of a fourth lol) when LGA hit 107, JFK was 104 and NYC was "only" 103. I dont know what the high at EWR was.

I have been 35 here while you are in the 20s on radational cooling mornings.

We both had HECS in 2010 and 2011

We both had 100+ degrees in summer 2010 and 2011

THe comparasions end here though.

I am willing to bet you agree with me that a repeat of 9/16/10 is not wanted.

Euro and GFS show some intense heat from Thursday thru Sunday of next week. Not saying it will be like today but definitely very hot.

there are too many for it not to be true. the lowest readings are in the upper 70s. 79 bay shore, 81 greenlawn, 80 setauket, 81 centerreach, 82 farmingville.

Many bad readings don't make them right. Dewpoints are hard to measure for automated stations... I'd cross check with the local ASOS network before believing PWS. For example, my parents' Davis was reading 10% higher humidity about 40 minutes ago, as compared to the ASOS less than 2 miles away.

I have no problem not having to experience that ever again. Once was enough for me!
