I'm actually on par with JFK (@ 89), I'm usually warmer since I'm further from the water. It happens though.

I know for a fact I'll be in the mid 90's fairly soon, watch.

JFK and most of south shore has gusty winds out of the south @ 25mph right now.

Queens and points East really got shafted today.... That south gusty wind wasn't expected was it?

I can't believe it's barely 80 out on the south fork... Hey though- that's what Long Island is famous for.. It's a natural A/C... Nobody likes 100+ temps w/ dewpoints 70+

This sucks but hopefully the sea breeze is a distant memory tomorrow.

Why is there a sea breeze today anyway with high pressure centered so far west?

I'm on the north shore in a typically hotter spot sheltered from sea breeze development and we haven't cracked 85 yet...

Just observing, I am certainly not a part of the silly deny-all-heat camp. I think tomorrow is the day where we all roast right down to the beach.

Interesting, so you guys havent reached 90 either.

Not according to all the marine forecasts. Small craft advisories are up through tomorrow afternoon for the entire south shore.

Tomorrow is forecasted to have S, SW winds of 15 to 20 knots.

Friday night the winds shift to the NW and last thru Saturday.

The hottest day for the shore looks like Satuday.

The marine winds dont have a 1:1 correlation with land winds here. Hell, the wind can be out of the south at Long Beach and NW up here, two miles away. In the winter, it's much more likely that they'll be out of the same direction on the water and the land (although not always then either)-- not usually so in the summer. With that said, I do think Saturday we will be hotter than the city and have our best shot of breaking 100 here. Could be like 98 at NYC and 101 around here.

87-89 sounds comical for a land breeze-- that might be our low lol.

Agree. If the winds are really NW, Saturday will be very hot at JFK and south shore locations.

Unfortunately, I think tomorrow will have the same winds as today but will be 3-5 degrees warmer everywhere, because the airmass is warmer.

But it will still be a big difference between EWR/LGA/NYC and JFK. At least 4-7 degrees.

3pm:

EWR: 101

NYC: 95

LGA: 95

JFK: 87

TEB: 99

JFK is now south winds at 30mph.

Newark will probably be higher in between hours 3pm and 4pm. 102 is their record.

Actually, Newark tied the record. (so far)

... Record high temperature tied at Newark NJ...

a record high temperature of 102 degrees was tied at Newark NJ

today at 258 PM (edt). This ties the old record of 102 set in 1991.

It will suck for you guys because of you had a land breeze the dew point would be lower and it would feel more comfortable. Everything in my house is sticky when the humidity is high-- it sucks.

I've been saying Mon and Tueday would be the hotest days around these parts, I think we get into the mid 90s on saturday.

Was Tuesday hotter for you than Tuesday last week? We hit 98 then lol. Where is this damned hot airmass that was being advertized :P This is nothing like the big ones from 1993, 1999 and 2010.

12z NAM has W-NW winds tomorrow afternoon and 23C+ 850mb temps tomorrow. JFK will most likely hit 100F.

hmmm thats a big change. I was wondering how we're getting a sea breeze with the high centered well to our west anyway, that's a strong downsloping signal.

The SW winds are extremely close to JFK on that.

But that is usually the case anyway, even when we exceed 100 degrees, which they are progged to do according to that map (and all the way out to central Suffolk county.) And Im almost 3 miles north of the shore lol.

That map is the NAM. The raw text soundings have a high of 92-94 for JFK tomorrow.
